About Me

Originally from The Bahamas, I was educated in the United Kingdom where I completed my initial teacher training. I emigrated to Canada in 2018 and continued to work in education in outdoor and experiential learning environments. In 2020 I returned to The Bahamas and am currently studying towards the International Baccalaureate Certificate in Teaching and Learning. My educational philosophy is that academic progress and success are best achieved when student individuality is valued, through formative assessment and a flexible approach adapted to the individual learner.

Tutor Experience

I have worked with students in a variety of educational settings; I have experience teaching in a traditional science classroom, providing one-to-one tutoring, and leading outdoor experiential marine science field trips.

I completed my initial teacher training in the UK and taught secondary science in a comprehensive school for 2 years. I provided after school intervention and support sessions for students who were below their target grade or otherwise struggling in science. Many of my students had missed almost an entire year of their science schooling due to long term staffing shortages and inadequate cover, and were unable to access current material due to gaps in their knowledge. I am experienced in identifying barriers to learning and providing kind encouragement to learners who have lost their confidence.

I love designing activities for students to conceptualize and access challenging concepts. I have a lot of experience working with students with specific learning support needs, and adapting and differentiating materials to make learning accessible and to support progress for all. My students tell me I am kind, patient and sincere. I love to problem solve with my students to identify the obstacles and barriers preventing them from succeeding, and then work to overcome them together.
