About Me
I am a tutor, storyteller, event producer and workshop facilitator. Currently I am working as a private tutor across four agencies, mainly online due to COVID.
Through all of my work, hobbies and passions, I am driven by a desire to truly celebrate life in all of its stages and forms. As a teacher, I work with young people to prepare them for the world, through passing on knowledge and information, but also through teaching and fostering the skills they need to critically appraise and assess the information that they will encounter as individuals.
In my personal life I am both adventurous, yet grounded. I take pleasure in focusing on present moments, such as exploring cliffs with my dog Sima, cooking, or delving into an engaging book while my cat Griff purrs next to me.
While these small moments bring me so much joy, I am still always focussed on the bigger
picture. Bringing people together and forging a sense of community are at the heart of everything that I do, and one day, I aim to establish my own alternative education school and curate a space where like minded people can come together to create, celebrate, connect and educate.
Tutor Experience
I’ve been passionately working in education since 2010, initially as an English teacher in Seville, Spain before teaching International Baccalaureate English and Humanities in London.
In addition, I have provided 1:1 literacy, numeracy and English tuition to a wide range of students. I also have extensive Special Education Needs experience, particularly with students on the Autistic Spectrum, students with ADHD and students with Oppositional Defiant Disorder.
Furthermore, I have prepared students for their A Levels in Psychology and GCSEs in English Language and Literature. I have a BSc in Psychology and an MSc in War & Psychiatry.
Much of my experience has been in engaging students who have been previously seen as ‘challenging’ and are out of education for various reasons. I find this work incredibly rewarding, and has been where I can really see the immense benefits of 1:1 tutoring. Students who have often fallen through the gaps in the education system, and require personalised, intensive learning.
On the other side of my tutoring, I thoroughly enjoy teaching older teenagers- particularly with a subject as interesting as Psychology. Delving into discussions on Freud, developmental psychology, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, while explaining the tricker areas like research methods.
In all my students, I always ensure to develop confidence and independence, attempting to find what it is that motivated them to continue to learn beyond our lessons/school. I try to see the bigger picture- taking into account them as individuals, rather than just the subject matter and exam grades. Regularly, I am forced to think ‘outside the box’ and find innovative and exciting ways to engage students- for me this is the true benefit of 1:1 tuition; treating each student as an individual and teaching them how they like to be taught.
