About Me

I am an experienced teacher of Maths, Physics and Engineering at foundation and undergraduate level. I am good at encouraging students to discover the answers to their own questions and to take responsibility for developing their own learning. I have an interest in developing online, asynchronous teaching models.
When I'm not teaching, I am with my two young daughters, out with my dog, or designing and programming games for PC.

Tutor Experience

I have 7 years' experience teaching maths and physics at A-level and undergraduate level at Cambridge Ruskin International College (now Anglia Ruskin College) and Anglia Ruskin University. As well as teaching engineers, I taught maths to students of all the sciences as well as business students, so I have a wide range of approaches to suit all sorts of backgrounds.

I also have several years experience tutoring GCSE and A-level students in physics, maths and business studies. I was most proud to help a student predicted a D in physics A level to achieve the B they required to attend their top-choice university, through 6 months of weekly tuition.

In addition to teaching, I have been an examiner for Cambridge Assessment on their A-level physics paper 9702/2 (short answer questions) for 8 years. For 5 of those years I've also been an examination team leader, helping to set the mark scheme for the exam and supervising a team of assistant examiners. In addition to working on Paper 2, I have marked on the alternative to practical paper, and set questions for the multiple choice paper. This gives me a good insight into what examiners are looking for when marking, and means I can help you with exam technique and strategies to maximise your marks.

I believe strongly in leading students to discover solutions for themselves, and a session with me is very much like an Oxbridge supervision. I quickly get to know my students, and try to draw examples from their experience to help make the subjects relevant to them.

Topic Expertise

Physics, especially at A level is my real passion- I love the subject and I love teaching it. However, I have also spent lots of time teaching maths to non-mathematicians, and I can remember from my own time at school the feeling of bewilderment maths can bring, so I also have a strong interest in showing those less confident in maths that it can be mastered.
I work for Cambridge International on their AS physics paper, and have also tutored maths and physics for OCR and Edexcel exam boards.
