A qualified Medical Doctor with an outstanding interdisciplinary academic record, certified management and teaching experience and exceptional interpersonal skills. Passionate about teaching and education, with a breadth of experience from primary to postgraduate level. Currently establishing a career in biotechnology, and working as a Science Tutor whilst studying at Imperial College, London.
My tutoring approach emphasises fun, enjoyable and contextualised learning in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere, whilst embracing neurodiversity and individual learning styles. Above all, I aim to inspire students to pursue their intellectual curiosities, and foster enthusiasm for lifelong learning.
I offer additional expertise in competitive university applications including Medical School admissions, personal statement writing, interview coaching and high-stakes exam technique.
My teaching experience spans 10 years, from primary to postgraduate level, and I have worked as a full-time Science Tutor since early 2021. I have taught in a variety of contexts, initially working as a Teaching Assistant in a Special Needs school from 2009 - 2011, then organising extra-curricular peer teaching programs whilst at Medical School, and ultimately teaching fellow NHS Healthcare Professionals after qualifying as a Doctor in 2018. Working as a Science Tutor in 2021 has allowed me to hone my online tutoring approach, utilising online white board technology, educational games platforms and other interactive resources to keep teaching fun and stimulating.

Hugh is an exceptional tutor! He assisted my sister and I in writing our medical school personal statements and he really went the extra mile to help us. He made useful suggestions and his feedback was really helpful. We are both very satisfied with his work and would highly recommend him to other medical school applicants!
Hugh is a very talented tutor who's very friendly and supportive. He is able to provide precise and helpful comments and suggestions on academic work. In addition to his suggestions and comments, he leaves some final comments to summarise his constructive feedback. All of this has been extremely important and helpful. I would definitely recommend him to others.
Great teaching style and very clear explanations - thank you
My son had the first class with Hugh and was very happy.
Hugh is a great tutor who I would 100% recommended to anyone. He ensures you have all the support you need and is so professional and friendly!
Really good first class, Hugh explained the content at a good pace and in the right amount of detail. Used a whiteboard website which was really useful and helpful in visualising the information. Hugh also asked questions throughout to test my knowledge and didn't judge me if I didn't quite get it right and instead just explained it.
Great to work with and very helpful and supportive through out the process. Very professional and structured in his work, and explained everything very clearly. He is committed to work and very patient. I was very satisfied and happy with the sessions.
'I have known Hugh for over 12 year now and I would absolutely recommend him as tutor. He is a compassionate, patient and reliable person with the ability to make anyone feel at ease. This is a key skill to make a child feel comfortable to learn... I can say with certainty he will be an excellent role model for any child he teaches and brings excitement and passion to everything he does' - Miss L. Emck, Senior Class Teacher & SEN Departmental Coordinator, Kingsland Pre-Prep, Chelsea.
‘From his first trial lesson, Hugh has given the best possible advice and support to my son preparing for his triple sciences GCSE. My son is always very interested during his tutoring lessons and is motivated to prepare for them with the bespoke homework carefully given by Hugh.’ - Mrs A. Dufour, Tutoring Client since April 2021
'I can recommend that Hugh is a pleasant professional doctor to work with. He shows a calm demeanour, has excellent communication skills with patients, relatives, and staff, in particular good listening skills. He is punctual, reliable and an excellent team player. I have no hesitation in recommending him' - Dr C. Campbell, Lead Clinician for Respiratory Medicine, Bucks Healthcare NHS Trust.
