I have a recent Masters degree in Holocaust & genocide and a BA in Politics, as well as 15 years teaching experience, the last 7 of which I headed a school history department and achieved regular superb grades at A level and GCSE. I have experience working with exam boards to develop A level topics and exams and have marked papers for them also. I enjoy scuba diving, current affairs and history and take guided visits to Auschwitz & Birkenau as an educator with the Holocaust Educational Trust. Before teaching I spent 15 years as a Fleet Street journalist, covering events ranging from royal weddings to Rwandan genocide.
15 years teaching, 7 years as head of history department.
3 years as a private tutor - all tutees achieved their target grade or more.
I am friendly and approachable and believe in encouraging students to learn and enjoy the learning. This then makes the specific task of preparing for exams easier, as its seen as a step towards a greater understanding and appreciation of the topic. Where possible I use topical examples and have a wealth of knowledge and experience and relevant anecdotes which bring subjects to life.
I've taught ages 11-18 at school and also delivered lectures and tutoring support to undergraduates.
