I've tutored students both in person and online for nearly 3 years, and through Spires since the start of the 2016 academic year.
Through my scholarships I spend a lot of time doing talks in schools and colleges and these range from introductions to STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) to build-it events to dispelling some of the Oxbridge myths and helping with applications.
I also read personal statements for the Social Mobility Foundation, so I'm extra busy with that in the run up to UCAS deadlines.
Alongside my university studies I have received a number of national scholarships and take my role as an ambassador for STEM subjects very seriously.
I am a volunteer for a number of organisations which aim to help disadvantaged students reach university and have tutored a number of students to success in their exams so I have a lot of experience of working with young people and helping them to reach their potential. I am happy to help as a subject specific tutor for GCSE or A-Level, or help students through the sometimes daunting university application process and admissions tests.
About my tutorials:
Sessions are always student-led. I plan tutorials which reflect the student's level of understanding, giving access to notes, including suggested exam questions, which the student can add to during the tutorial, or use as a memory-aid following the tutorial.
I have received lots of positive feedback about this approach.
I can also help students through questions or tasks which they bring, and the best tutorials involve this collaborative input.
The pace of sessions is determined by the student, and I am happy to go through any topic with a number of different approaches until we find one which the student finds helpful.
