About me

I’ve been teaching physics since 1990, both GCSE and A level. I have also been Head of Science, so I have lots of teaching experience. I retired from teaching this year but I'm still an examiner for both GCSE and A level Physics. Being retired means that I'm very flexible with lesson times and can dedicate more time to preparation of online lessons. I continue to work in education by pursuing another goal of mine which is to develop physics simulations to help explain some of the concepts in physics. I lead a group of Year 12 students in a national competition which we won, this win resulted in a visit to CERN in Geneva for the switch on of the LHC particle accelerator. I also lead another group to a competition for the 'Big Bang' event, they were national runners up. I still have a passion for the subject and my experience means I understand many of the difficulties students face in tackling the concepts in physics, so I use patience, encouragement and understanding in my approach. Having a wealth of experience also means I can use a number of different methods to explain concepts and therefore help to improve both confidence and attainment.

Tutor Experience

I’ve been teaching physics since 1990, both GCSE and A level. I have also been Head of Science, so I have lots of teaching experience. I retired from teaching this year but I'm still an examiner for both GCSE and A level Physics. Being retired means that I'm very flexible with lesson times and can dedicate more time to preparation of online lessons. I have tutored online using Zoom, including use of the whiteboard. I have also taught and tutored mathematics to GCSE level.

Topic Expertise

Physics to both GCSE and A level are my main areas of expertise, I have always taught using the AQA specification, but, it really doesn't matter which examination board is chosen the content is very much the same. I am an examiner for two different boards, so I am confident with all examination boards.
My second area of expertise is GCSE Mathematics, I taught and tutored this subject intermittently for many years, my PGCE from Manchester University is actually in Physics and Mathematics and my degree in Astrophysics naturally contained a large amount of mathematical content.
