About Me

I am originally from Athens, Greece. I also did the IB, which I highly regard as a program. In 2006 I began my studies as a Mechanical Engineer at Imperial College London wherefrom I received the M.Eng. in 2010. The following 4 years I did a Ph.D. on fluid mechanics and turbulence (quite mathematical in nature, the thesis was about how particles move and interact in turbulent flows). Since then I have lived in Peru for half a year working for an NGO and constructing wind turbines and in London for 4 years working for a clean-energy startup. Thereafter, I lived in Barcelona for 3.5 years collaborating with the University. Now I live mainly in Athens and frequently travel to Barcelona, In parallel, I have been tutoring since I began my studies at Imperial in the subjects of maths, computing and engineering.

Finally, I am a keen music listener and enjoy a lot doing sports (mainly basketball but also swimming and boxing).

Tutor Experience

I have been tutoring full time for the past 5 years and part-time for the last 10years amounting in thousands of hours of classes! I have mainly taught IB Mathematics at all levels (studies, SL and HL) and also following the change in the structure I have been teaching in both levels Applications and Interpretations and Analysis and Approaches. In total I have taught over 45 students on a one-to-one basis almost entirely online.
Moreover, I have tutored computing and engineering courses throughout the length of my PhD at Imperial College and also ran a mathematics of turbulence workshop at the university of La Sapienza in Italy.
In all scenarios I tailor my support to the student's needs and aspirations. I help a student throughout the course of their studies offering guidance towards both the subject that I teach and in general on how to organise their time and prioritise tasks in order to always be prepared and hence also calm! Finally, I always enjoy when I motivate a student by offering real life examples of the concepts that they learn and trying to debacle the concept of usefulness from mathematics and instead associate the concept of interest to the subject

Topic Expertise

As a previous IB student myself, I can cover all of the aspects of the Mathematics courses of the IB (Applications and Interpretations and Analysis and Approaches at both SL and HL). This includes support towards in-depth understanding of the material, practicing with questions of scaled difficulty, exam preparation and also the Internal Assessment.
Moreover, given my doctorate degree in applied statistics I offer support to undergraduate students who follow the subject at all levels.

Testimonials

Kamran:
There is not much more to say than THANK YOU Yagos!

Sofia:
thank you so much for everything! I would have never managed to even pass the exams without you, let alone get a 7!

Dimitar:
With this paper I am now done with IB math syllabus and I just want to thank you once again for everything you have done to help me reach my potential through these years

Qualifications

Teaching:

- Over 5000 hours of tutoring via online platforms; continuously receiving 5/5 star feedback.
- University lecturing (La Sapienza Rome)
- University tutoring (Imperial College London)

Education:
2010-2014: Imperial College London (ICL) Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, Thermofluids Division
Thesis title: A Stochastic Model for Turbulent Poly-Disperse flows
The PhD consists in the development of numerical models using stochastic calculus for the simulation of turbulent-coupled particle flows. The aim is to handle large data sets describing the development of particle properties in turbulent flows in a computationally efficient and phenomenologically accurate way.
The results of the Thesis have been partially published and presented in international journals and conferences..
Personal development short-courses: Manufacturing Workshop Qualification (ICL); Philosophy (ICL Humanities department); Spanish Language (ICL Humanities department)

2012: Imperial College London: Graduate Teacher Qualification

2006-2010: Imperial College London (ICL) M.Eng. & ACGI, Mechanical Engineering
Grade: First Class Honours 80%, Graduated 7th in class, Master Thesis Grade: 83%
Thesis title: An investigation of the flow-field over hydrophobic cylinders
The project consists in the design manufacturing and use of an experimental rig to measure the relative effects of hydrophobicity on the vortex shedding frequencies downstream of a bluff body.

2004-2006: Athens College, Greece International Baccalaureate
Grade: 40/45
Courses: Mathematics HL, Physics HL, Economics HL, History SL, English A SL, and Modern Greek SL
