About Me

I am a qualified chemistry teacher with a Master's, Doctorate, and teaching qualification from three Russell group universities. I am also an examiner for GCSE, A Level and IB Diploma so can offer advice and strategies to improve exam technique.

My teaching style focuses first on ensuring your understanding of theory is completely secure, with no knowledge gaps or misconceptions, before working on exam-style questions and exam technique.

For exam preparation, I set timed exercises and full papers that I will mark and provide feedback on. This feedback is very detailed and will help you improve exam technique, avoid common exam mistakes, and give better answers.

I provide high-quality resources (revision notes and booklets of past paper questions) matched to each specification at no additional cost.

For students targeting top grades, my strategy is based around developing higher-level understanding and problem-solving skills to help prepare for the harder questions that only top students can answer. We would then work through my database of ‘stretch and challenge’ questions – these are the toughest questions designed specifically for students targeting top grades.

Before becoming a full-time tutor, I had a successful career managing a high-tech chemistry and engineering company. This unique combination of academic excellence and industry experience means I can teach beyond the textbook, giving students the deeper understanding needed for top grades and bringing a reality to the theory.

Outside of teaching and other education-related activities, I am a keen pianist and composer of piano music. I am also a huge fan of Japanese cuisine and am currently trying to learn enough recipes to be able to eat Japanese food every day!

Tutor Experience

One of the most experienced and successful online tutors, I have delivered 10,000+ hours' online tuition to 100s of students in 22 countries, helping then gain more confidence and achieve exam success.

Exam results from summer 2022 (15 final year students):
• 93% of students achieved top grades
• IB chemistry: 4 students achieved level 7, 2 students achieved level 6
• A Level chemistry: 2 students achieved A*, 4 students achieved A, 2 students achieved B.
• GCSE: 1 student improved from level 5 to level 9, 1 student improved from F/G to B.

My recent students have gone on to study at the Royal Veterinary College, Cambridge University, Oxford University, Manchester University, Edinburgh University, Imperial College (London), Kings College (London), Durham University, Queen Mary (London), Newcastle University, Leeds University, Bristol University and University College (London).

As a full-time professional chemistry tutor, I am 100% committed to my students' success and guarantee a reliable and professional service.

Topic Expertise

I am a specialist chemistry tutor with over 15 years’ professional and industry experience working in chemistry.

My professional experience has been developed through my roles as a qualified teacher of science, a private tutor of chemistry from school level to degree level, and as an examiner for GCSE, A level and International Baccalaureate Diploma chemistry.

I have also enjoyed a successful career running a high-tech chemistry and engineering company, which gave me real-world experience of chemistry. This gives me the unique ability to teach beyond the textbook and bring chemistry to life through direct experience.

Thanks to my business background, I understand the skills needed for career success and can give useful advice on careers, UCAS personal statements and interviews.
