About Me

I am a final year PhD student at the University of Southampton studying geophysics. My research is focused on the study of marine bubbles via passive and active acoustic techniques. This requires the use of both advanced physics and maths as well sedimentology and seismology.

I am capable of tutoring GCSE, A - Level and IB students in Physics, Math's and Geology. My primary aim will be to assist in your learning by working in tandem with what you have learned in class. Helping you to master more difficult topics and cementing fundamental concepts via personal experiences and alternative approaches I have developed working in academia and industry.

I am open to engaging with all ability levels, from students who are completely lost to those who feel restrained by their syllabus progression. I struggled a lot with dyslexia as a child and only learnt to read by age 12, so have complete sympathy and patience for those who struggle with what others find easy. On the other hand as a natural mathematician I always felt stifled by the natural pace of a classroom. As such I am fully willing to share my real world science problems with higher level students in order to truly test their skills.

In my previous outreach work I have always endeavoured to ensure students walk away with a greater understanding of what it is be a scientist and how modern science works. Something I hope to continue with these tutorials, hopefully inspiring you to pursue the same path.

Tutor Experience

While I have limited experience in one on one tutorials with high school students I have extensive classroom experience, working in +20 schools in the past 4 years giving interactive science lessons. As a common frustration during these sessions was my inability to ensure each student got the full attention they deserved I am excited at the prospect to focus my efforts on a single individual.

Seren Award Master Class Tutor (2020) - Created and presented a short lecture series to A level students in Wales on Marine Acoustics (incorporating the A level physics, maths and geology curriculum). Following were guided through the process of writing a university style essay on the topic, which has been expect in place of A levels in several UK universities.

STEMMCCS Schools Outreach / RAS Educational Outreach Project : Hunting Bubbles(2018-2020) - Devised and presented a number of classroom lectures designed to educate students about Carbon Capture and Storage (geology) and the science behind bubbles (Physics and Maths)

PhD dementor (2017-2021) - assisted in numerous geology/geophysics classroom practicals for undergraduate students. Particularly with physics and math based problems. In addition to supporting multiple masters students through their dissertation projects
