About Me

I have a BSc (Hons) Physics from the University of Wales, Cardiff and a PGCE in Secondary Science with Physics specialism from the University of Birmingham.

I am a fully qualified and very experienced teacher of physics and genuinely love what I do.

When I'm not spending my time developing new resources or trying out new technologies and methods for delivering content I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is a geography teacher, and our incredibly energetic 2 year old! We particularly enjoy spending time together outside, training in the gym we put together in our garage during lockdown, and bingeing on a good box set!

Tutor Experience

I am a dedicated, outstanding and engaging teacher with a passion for inspiring students and equipping them to succeed through meeting their individual needs within a trusting, nurturing, and supportive environment. I have over 15 years experience in the classroom and a proven track record of helping students achieve their very best. I have significant teaching, tutoring, management, and leadership experience in a variety of different schools with a variety of demographics, which allows me to draw on a range of strategies and tools in order to drive forward and develop students’ levels of understanding. I am an expert communicator, which enables me to make physics learning enjoyable, accessible, and relevant to all students.

I am currently Head of Science and Physics at a Grammar School in Warwickshire where I deliver AQA GCSE Physics, OCR B A-level Physics to a large cohort of students. I have also been responsible for designing and fully resourcing our own Key Stage 3 curriculum.
Prior to starting my current role in 2012 I have been Second in Science and Head of Physics at two other large comprehensive schools, gaining my first promotion to Head of Physics after only 18 months. In these schools I have delivered AQA GCSE, AQA A level and Edexcel A Level.

During my career I have overseen a number of specification and exam board changes which means I have experience in preparing students for a wide range of examinations. Beyond the classroom I have extensive experience in delivering small group and 1:1 tutorials for students across all year groups in a variety of schools and online, including both the CIE iGCSE and Edexcel iGCSE .

Topic Expertise

Currently I teach AQA GCSE Physics and OCR B A-Level, and am currently tutoring a number of students for the Edexcel GCSE and IGCSE aswell as AQA A-Level Physics, OCR A A level Physics, WJEC A level Physics and Edexcel A level Physics. I am confident in supporting students with all the major exam boards, having delivered most of them during my career to date.

I was struggling a lot at the beginning of this lesson but now I can say that I understand the content really well!

- Physics

This session was really interactive and I really enjoyed consolidating my learning with testing and practice and Lauren was able to provide explanation on some key points that I hadn't understood from a question so that I could maximise my understanding for the future
