I have consistently worked part-time as a private English Language and/or Literature tutor over the last four years. As a result I have experience tutoring for Key Stage 3, GCSE, A-level, IB, ELAT, and scholarship exams, in addition to general teaching to improve reading and essay writing skills.

I am adept at targeting the specifications of different exam boards and am able to tutor for any board and syllabus. I have occasionally worked in-person, but now hold lessons over Zoom and comfortably use an online-teaching format.

Several of my students have had English as their second or even third language. I also have experience with students who have learning or reading difficulties such as dyslexia. I am excellent at targeting the specific problems that can occur for these kinds of student, and am a very patient and encouraging teacher. We go at your pace!

Studying English at Oxford gave me in-depth knowledge of literature from 800 CE to the present day. I worked on everything from the historical bookbinding of William Blake's art books to depictions of cannibalism in Middle English recipes and romance. The course also allowed me to study some of the most central writers of the canon in depth, such as Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, and many others. I love to share this understanding and enthusiasm that I have for English with my students.

I got full marks in my English Language and English Literature GCSEs, and then again at A Level. My expertise is at preparing people for exams, and I specialise in helping people tackle exams that are hard to prepare for, like unseen papers, and the Oxbridge ELAT exam or interview. One recent student of mine moved up two grades over the course of our tutoring sessions and got the top grade in her IB exam, even though English is her third language.
