About Me
I trained as a Secondary Mastery Maths specialist and Professional Development Lead at the Centre for Excellence in Maths. I was a Governor at one of the King Edwards' selective Grammar schools in Birmingham for 4 years and I am currently responsible for raising the attainment of pupil premium pupils at the grammar school where I teach.
I ran my first marathon in London in 2022 and found it such an incredible experience, that in April this year, I ran the London and Brighton marathons to raise money for the mental health charity MIND. I am currently training for the 2024 Brighton marathon to raise money for the charity Strong Minds.
Tutor Experience
I qualified as a maths teacher in 1997 and have taught GCSE and A level Maths across a range of secondary schools. I currently teach at a a selective grammar school in Birmingham, and tutor a small number of A Level and IB Maths puils.
My approach to teaching is very practical; Maths matters. It is everywhere and in everything, and pupils need to see it as such. They will use it continually in life so they need to develop a love for it and an appreciation of it. I try to inspire this outlook in my pupils, and many of my pupils say that they now love the subject.
Topic Expertise
I can prepare students to be tested by each of the major exam boards. I have 7 years' experience as a Maths Examiner with Pearson (Edexcel). I am familiar with the course requirements of all of the major exam boards.
I particularly enjoy teaching A-Level and IB Maths courses and can help to ensure that your child achieves excellent results that they can be proud of if they are prepared to put in the work. One of my pupils achieved a 7 in his IB Maths exam, 880/900 in the numerical reasoning section of his UCAT and is currently studying medicine at Oxford University.
