About Me

I am a graduate of BA Human Sciences at Oxford - a course which combines social sciences and biology - and currently studying an MSc in Public Health at LSHTM. In my free time, I like to review books, garden, and visit local cafes.

Due to my experience as a student ambassador for Oxford University, I have extensive knowledge of university admissions processes and criteria, and I'm passionate about supporting students with their university applications. This was my entry point into tutoring once I graduated from Oxford. I have since expanded from this background to help students achieve a range of educational goals, focusing on my specialty area of health and related subjects. I tailor my tutoring to the student, focusing on their questions and areas of weakness, and working through their problems together.

Tutor Experience

I've worked as an online tutor for the past year, with over 150 hours' experience. I have worked with clients ranging from ages 9 to 19 and am constantly seeking opportunities to expand my tutoring expertise, shaping my tutoring style around each student's needs. Prior to that, I was a student ambassador for Oxford University for two years, during which time I mentored several students with As a result, my tutoring experience initially focused on university admissions: I have advised students on their applications, led seminars on Oxbridge and on the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA), edited personal statements, etc.

I also tutor academic subjects, particularly English, Biology, and health-related courses. Recently, I've been increasingly interested in tutoring that focuses more on skills than on content, and have enjoyed working with students on their academic writing, executive function, time management, dissertation/coursework planning, and general study skills. I specialise in working with older students (16+, including up to postgraduate level), anything related to biology or public health, and academic writing (especially dissertations). I've also worked with several students that have specific learning difficulties such as autism, ADHD, and dyspraxia.

Testimonials

"Maddie was my TSA tutor. She could always offer clear explanations and point out key 'traps' in the questions I found confusing. Maddie is an amazing listener, to my questions and reasonings for answers, and she would give me reflective feedback on what I said. I really appreciate Maddie's tutoring for my TSA preparation!" - Student

"I am pleased to leave a review for Maddie. She helped me with a range of assignments during my Pre-Masters course at UCL. This included making some informative suggestions on my assignments, responding to my questions in a timely manner, and revising English grammar and vocabulary. Also, she often asks thought-provoking questions that help me to have deeper thoughts. I am very satisfied that with Maddie's support I was able to achieve excellent grades of 75% in Extended Writing and 81% in Reflective Writing. The advice she gave will help me to feel more confident in participating in tasks and completing assignments in my future Masters course." - Student

You were thorough in looking at her work that she produced and gave thoughtful feedback. We as parents, appreciated your tutorial lesson reports which you sent in a timely manner. I hope you continue to mentor and support other students." - Parent
