I gained A grade A Levels in English Literature, History, French and Economics (AS Level) before attending university. I studied at the University of Birmingham after which, following early career aspirations in investigative journalism, I graduated with a 2:1 - BA Jt (Hons) in English Literature & American and Canadian Studies. I then qualified as a teacher through Teach First during which I worked at a state secondary school in South Yorkshire. I then wanted to expand my professional practice in an international context which I achieved through working at two international schools, one in Mexico and one in Ukraine. Throughout my career, I have taught students of varying ages, backgrounds, and abilities; developed my knowledge of both British and international curricula; and fulfilled positions of departmental, Key Stage and examining team leadership. The tenets of my teaching philosophy include student-centred support, skill development, inspiration, rigour, creativity, communication, collaboration and critical thinking achieved through a range of teaching strategies (including modelling, questioning and coaching), cognitive processes (designed to embed knowledge and skills in students' long-term memory), feedback approaches and assessment methods. I enjoy supporting students' extracurricular interests in journalism, debating and advocacy. Outside of the classroom, I pursue my sporting interests (cycling, tennis and football), practise my linguistic proficiencies (Spanish and French) and enjoy travel.
I have seven years of English teaching, at British and international schools, within which I have led two departments, taught Theory of Knowledge and continue to examine for the IB
