About Me
I used to play rugby but since retiring I have taken golf to my heart, worked hard at it and have won a few prizes along the way. When at home I enjoy reading novels, particularly sci-fi and I am an enthusiastic guitarist. I also love the opportunity to try new things and recently tried to learn how to paddle-board. I have lived in Italy for a number of years now and am a dedicated language student so know how hard it can be to learn new things!
Tutor Experience
I have a wide range of experience of teaching in the UK and internationally and I’m especially confident with teaching online. While working online I use my own presentations, carefully sourced online experiments and an IPAD and Apple pencil to annotate and give feedback on student work. Over the years I have worked with many students with all kinds of educational needs and feel I I am a calm and reassuring presence. I am able to create a safe environment where progress can be made through clear objectives and tasks that are developed with the learning needs of the individual students.
Topic Expertise
I am currently a Head of Chemistry and this is my main area of expertise. I have been IB certified and have taught for 9 years now all areas of the IB HL and SL course including taking many classes through the IA journey. I am also confident in delivering the A-Level and I/GCSE 9-1 as I have also taught this as well in recent years. Taking students through the complex abstract topics such as equilibrium and modelling how to tackle mole calculations is something I have worked hard to develop and can help you to make significant improvements in these complex areas.
I have also been teaching IB ESS over the last few years and can offer support with this in particular with the challenging IA process.

I obtained a BSc Degree in Chemistry from Newcastle University and a PGCE from Nottingham University.
I have done both Category 1 and 2 IB Chemistry training courses and also Category 1 in ESS.
