About Me
I was born in Norfolk and was lucky to have Geography all around me, with the coast and Norfolk Broads on my doorstep. After taking my A levels in Biology, Chemistry, English Literature and History, I went on to read Environmental Sciences at The University of East Anglia, achieving a strong 2.1 grade.
As part of this undergraduate degree, I spent a year at The University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in the USA, specialising in Geology and Meteorology. I enjoy travelling and spent 6 months working in Poland as a TEFL instructor before completing my PGCE in Secondary Geography in 2012 at the University of East Anglia.
I am currently completing a Master's degree in Geographical Information Science with the University of Leeds on a part-time basis. When I'm not studying, I tutor secondary school students one-to-one as alternative school provision. When I'm not studying or tutoring, I enjoy skiing, yoga and travelling.
Tutor Experience
I began teaching in 2011 with a 6 month TEFL placement in Tychy, Poland where I taught all age groups a mixture of formal and conversational English. These were a mixture of small group and individual tuition classes.
I am a Secondary Geography specialist, spending the last 10 years teaching in two secondary schools in Norfolk, firstly as a Teacher of Humanities and then as Head of Humanities. I have extensive experience teaching year 7-11 students and am particularly familiar with both the Geography Edexcel A and Geography AQA GCSE specifications. I am also familiar with requirements for Geography A Level.
I have often taught small group and individual intervention groups to support student progress. Throughout the Covid 19 pandemic and during home learning, I became expert with online learning and remote teaching.
I have recently started freelance teaching with YMCA Norfolk, delivering bespoke lessons online for students unable to access mainstream education due to medical needs. Alongside this I am currently completing a Diploma in Digital Learning Design to complement my experience with online learning.
Topic Expertise
I am expert in the AQA and Edexcel A Geography GCSE specifications in particular. For A Level, I am expert in both OCR and AQA specifications.
