I am currently working with British School Jakarta (BSJ), Indonesia as Assistant Faculty Leader for Design and Computer Science department since August 2016. I have been teaching technology as a subject to high school students since 2003.
As a faciliatator, I consider myself fortunate enough to have the responsibility to bridge the gap between young learners and teachers. To achieve this, I allow my learners to say whatever comes to their mind a question is asked. This is not possible unless there is an environment that gives respect to everyone’s thoughts no matter where it stands in terms of knowledge and understanding of the subject-specific topics. When the learners feel the freedom of voicing their opinions it brings them to their zone of proximal development, a suitable environment to facilitate teaching and learning.
As a facilitator, I keep myself updated with all the subject-specific knowledge and details in terms of assessment and delivery of the course-specific content. This is very crucial for the learners to have confidence in my abilities and knowledge to deliver the subject I facilitate. At the same time, I also spend a considerable amount of time in knowing the abilities and potential of my learners to guide them effectively no matter how difficult the scenario be.
I have been teaching IBDP Computer Science / ITGS and IGCSE Computer Science / ICT since 2007 and Indian national curriculum since 2003. During this period, I have closely learned the various requirement of these programs in terms of internal assessments, exam preparations and delivering the subject-specific knowledge to learners of variable needs. This has made me very confident of delivering these subjects using the best of my abilities. All my past batches have passed the exams with remarkable achievement scoring high A-A* and 7 in their exams. Being an examiner and moderator for these programs also helped me to know various subject-specific requirements and then pass them to my students for better academic achievements. My subject knowledge keeps me very active on teacher’s support website(MyIB) to provide subject-specific help to other fellow teachers. I have also supervised my IBDP students in writing Extended Essays for Computer Science and ITGS. I have attended numerous IBDP & IGCSE workshops to keep myself updated as per the requirements of subjects.
