I am 38 and I live in Barcelona. I have been a teacher since I left university. I also am a qualified solicitor. I love to cook and I love football (I support Arsenal :-)). I enjoy reading books about Political Economy and History and I enjoy listening to jazz piano and music from the 70s and 80s and complaining that most TV shows not being as good as The Wire. I love to travel. I am married and my wife and I have a galgo (Spanish greyhound) called Aizu. Our old galgo was called Mozart.
Thank you for reading my profile. I have taught A Level and IB Economics, A Level Politics and A Level Business Studies for 16 years and my teaching focuses very much on improving the exam technique of my students. I have been tutoring online for over 6 years. I graduated from Oxford University in 2003 where I studied Politics, Philosophy and Economics and I have been a Head of Economics at top independent schools for 8 years. I have also been a Head of Politics. I am a Qualified Teacher.
Teaching is my passion and I love helping my students to gain confidence in their subjects and to develop their independent thinking skills. My lessons are interactive and I demand a lot from my students because I believe in them. Nothing in my subjects is beyond you, if you are willing to break questions and topics down to their small component parts. I will show you exactly how to do this.
My approach to teaching varies from subject to subject and from pupil to pupil, but I can give you an overview of my general approach now. One of my first goals in classes is to teach my pupils how to understand what an exam question is asking. We do this by breaking questions down, word by word. Next, I provide my pupils with a checklist for how to structure answers so that they can access all of marks available. Then I teach my students how to develop their arguments by asking the questions "why?", "so?" and "how?” in relation to their points, which ensures they provide developed chains of reasoning. Lastly, in every class we revise key concepts and I explain concepts in simple terms using easy to understand examples and I make my students do the same.
