I have a PGCE in Secondary English, and a M-ed in Visual Impairment where I studied the impact of teaching social skills to students with visual impairment and autism.
I’m a theatre and dance lover, and I write occasionally for Teaching Drama magazine.
I’ve recently learned to swim - I think we should always continue to learn!
I am a specialist academic mentor for university students with disabilities.
Experienced in teaching the following:
KS4 English (language and literature)
A Level English literature
GCSE and BTEC Drama
A Level Drama (including Media)
A Level Classical Civilisation
GCSE Classical Civilisation
I aim to make my lessons interactive and accessible. Because I work frequently with visually impaired learners I am keen to ensure all materials and activities are student friendly and accessible. I like to have conversations about what works for individual students so that lessons can be tailored specifically. I enjoy getting to know my students well to enable me to teach them effectively. I have taught in mainstream schools, and also SEN environments. I have also supported students one to one with functional English skills and been a private tutor to KS3,4 & 5 students.
GCSE English and A Level English: AQA, OCR, Edexcel (willing to cover others)
Functional English: Pearson
GCSE and A Level Drama: I have taught all exam boards and have contributed to text books for Pearson. As an ex Stage Manager I have an excellent knowledge of the technical theatre options.
Great once again, helped me get a much better handle on the texts :)

This was my first class and Lucy supported me well. Gave me confidence in my ability and gave me ideas on how to progress and ideas on what else to write. Thank you :)
Hi Lucy, just wanted to say a huge thank you for your support. I came to you scraping Cs and Ds and we managed to get an A*! So thank you for always working with me and always pushing me up the grade boundaries. Couldn’t have done it without you. (A Level English Literature AQA 2022)
Lucy is a brilliantly creative teacher who fosters great relationships with her students. I can recommend her wholeheartedly.
