Lindsay $45-55/hr

Mathematics - University of Cambridge

I teach A-level maths and further maths, GCSE, iGCSE, OCR FSMQ, the QTS Numeracy test and STEP Assignments.

I have been a professional tutor for over 30 years and have taught online for 7 years. I have helped to improve the results and confidence of many different types of students. Often I have been asked to tutor younger siblings and get new students via recommendations.

For the further maths A level I can assist with CP1, CP2, FM1 and FP1.

Lindsay's last completed A Level Further Mathematics job with Chloe: 1-2 hrs/week - My A level exams are this year in June and I am struggling with the year 2 content. Some help would be much appreciated! There is a picture of the contents pages attached, as it is a new specification.

Lindsay's last review in A Level Further Mathematics from Natalie: The 2nd chapter of core pure year 2 - Maclaurin series and series expansions of compound functions. Very helpful, clear explanations of questions and laid out solutions in a very organised way that made it easy to spot any mistakes I had made.

Jonny $45-55/hr

Mathematics/Education - Cambridge University, OU, UEA

I have vast experience of teaching mathematics and further mathematics to A Level, having taught in three different sixth form colleges for a total of 25 years. I thrive when working on maths with learners; it's a subject I love, and the question of how best to communicate it is one that fascinates me. I'm well-qualified; my first degree at Cambridge University (where I won a scholarship) was in Mathematics and Education, and I have an MSc in Mathematical Research from the University of East Anglia. I also have a Cert. Ed. from Cambridge University and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Professional Studies in Education from the Open University. I'm a keen member of the Association of Teachers of Mathematics, and I'm constantly trying to improve my teaching in discussion with others.

Samuel $60-70/hr

Mathematics - University of Oxford

I have worked for Spires for 5 years, and have considerable experience teaching young adults. I have coached rugby and tutored informally for nearly 10 years, and when I joined Oxford University in 2014 I began to tutor professionally.

I stand out as an A Level tutor due to my experience at identifying how young adults think and learn - especially when they are confused or distressed - and tailoring my tutoring accordingly. My aim is to instill calmness and build confidence, by getting to know my students and identifying their underlying issues. This allows me to help them develop a deep-rooted and permanent understanding, at top speed.

When it comes to maths and science, miscommunication is often the biggest problem! Not everyone clicks perfectly with their teacher. This is where I would love to help.

Samuel's last completed A Level Further Mathematics job with Shalin: 1-2 hrs/week - I am struggling with a few topics in FM (OCR MEI), specifically differential equations, vectors and hyperbolic functions. I am looking to achieve an A* this summer with some help.

Virender $45-55/hr

Honours Mathematics; Applied Statistics; PGCPE - University of Southampton; BPP University

I believe that a good tutor combines teaching and mentoring in a way that encourages students to use their own thinking and ability, set their own ‘agenda’, ask questions and then works with them to improve their self- confidence and ability in the subject.

I have degrees in Mathematics, Statistics and Teaching, and have taught Mathematics and Statistics at Advanced, Foundation and University levels to a variety of students.

I teach A-level Maths and Statistics at school and also tutor students studying for AS, A2, IB exams under various boards (OCR, CIE, Edexcel, AQA, MAT/STEP, GRE). Topics covered have been in Core Maths, Further Maths and Statistics.

I have taught courses in Maths and Statistics at Universities. Also I have tutored University level students on topics covering Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, Complex Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Fluid Dynamics, Quantitative Methods in Business, Actuarial Maths, Financial mathematics.

Virender's last completed A Level Further Mathematics job with Isabelle: Over 2 hrs/week - I'm 18 and in my final year of A-Levels, studying Further Maths on the Pearson Edexcel exam board. My optional modules are Further Pure 1 and Mechanics 1, and need help on the mechanics especially. My weakest pure topics are vectors and polar coordinates. Need to get an A as I've got an offer for medicine that I really don't want to miss out on!

Virender's last review in A Level Further Mathematics from Zara: Further Maths - Zara to advise Thank you! Very useful and helped me understand very clearly

Natural Sciences (Astrophysics) - University of Cambridge / Harvard University

I have tutored A-level, Undergraduate and Masters Physics and Maths for three years for pupils aiming for levels from C-A* (and 1st Class Honours), as well as Oxbridge entrance exams and interview practice.

Academically, I graduated top in my year from Cambridge with a Masters' in Astrophysics, and am now undergoing a one-year research placement at Harvard, before starting a PhD in Princeton.

Oliver's last completed A Level Further Mathematics job with Harry: Intensive - I have 9A*s and 3 9s at gcse. I would like study economics at Cambridge. I will need A*A at least in maths and further maths.
I have just completed my lower sixth form. I do not like the Harkness approach to teaching which my school adopts. I would like to be directly taught all the concepts and techniques.
I would like to have tuition in an intensive week long burst this summer if possible to consolidate my lower sixth learning in;
Mechanics
Stats
Further Maths
I would like an experienced tutor who has a track record of helping student secure Alevel A*s and getting into oxbridge

Shahid $75-85/hr

MSc - Manchester

I estimate I have at least 6000 hours of experience, having been a tutor since 2011. I initially started teaching Maths and Physics to Engineering students at University and I gradually expanded into secondary school level tuition. I have worked full time as a tutor since 2012 and during that time I have taught Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Engineering.

I have taught A Levels, IGCSE/GCSE, IB, Pre-U, AP and I have covered nearly every exam board including Edexcel, OCR, AQA, WJEC. All of my students are seeking to get into top Univeristies.
What makes me a good tutor is my ability to break down a subject and cover it in a particular order so that a student who might not have a good understanding can understand how to progress through the topics. It doesn't hurt that I have a sense of humour and make my lessons actually fun and enjoyable.

Shahid's last completed A Level Further Mathematics job with Aimee: Occasional - I am struggling with mechanics and statistics so hoping to do some extra work over the summer with extra help.

Alex $40-50/hr

Materials - University of Oxford

During my undergraduate degree, I tutored students in lower years and ran a series of departmental seminars to encourage learning "beyond the textbook." I think it's important to help students make links not just between the subjects they study, but to real-world applications - a component sometimes missing in the high-pressure, rapid-paced school environment. Most crucially, I remember how stressful preparation for GCSEs and A-levels can be- and the tips and tricks students can employ to not only do well in the exam, but to really understand the material.

I am confident working with students of all abilities, particularly those who are motivated but lack confidence in their ability to tackle mathematics and the physical sciences. I am also interested in tutoring students who could benefit from a little extra support with their studies, as well as those who are seeking to be challenged beyond the school curriculum.

Chloe $40-50/hr

Engineering Science (Biomedical) - University of Oxford

I am a volunteer for a number of organisations which aim to help disadvantaged students reach university and have tutored a number of students to success in their exams so I have a lot of experience of working with young people and helping them to reach their potential. I am happy to help as a subject specific tutor for GCSE or A-Level, or help students through the sometimes daunting university application process and admissions tests.

About my tutorials:
Sessions are always student-led. I plan tutorials which reflect the student's level of understanding, giving access to notes, including suggested exam questions, which the student can add to during the tutorial, or use as a memory-aid following the tutorial.
I have received lots of positive feedback about this approach.
I can also help students through questions or tasks which they bring, and the best tutorials involve this collaborative input.
The pace of sessions is determined by the student, and I am happy to go through any topic with a number of different approaches until we find one which the student finds helpful.
