I am a professional tutor who graduated from Cambridge with a 1st class BA degree and an MPhil in Education and Literature - I have been tutoring ever since.

As a published academic writer with experience of private school and Oxbridge admissions processes, I am further confident tutoring to an extremely high level of tuition for a number of top-level schools and universities. I have worked in the commercial business world and gained experience before moving into my passion for teaching. I want to concentrate on turning students I Can't statements into I Can, I believe that everyone has the potential to achieve they just need the correct guidance and that all important Mindset. Each student is different and gains the knowledge and understanding in different ways, as a tutor it is my job to find that way and release that potential.
My approach to teaching is to find the right method for the student. I believe each student has their own style of learning and we need to harness that style in order to succeed. I discuss the needs of the student and then assess the ability through a test. From the results I create a individual learning plan, using this plan we work together to find the best learning style ( practical, theory based, written, spoken, mix of styles) to turn the student from a knowledge and understanding into a expert and evaluator. I aim to have my students having a positive growth mindset and leave saying I Can do that!

Whether reaching for examination confidence, mastery of subject content or skills, or progress with emotional, behavioural or cognitive needs, all tutees should expect teaching that is entirely personalised and constantly adaptive to their evolving learning, including:
- guidance for pupils toward understanding and pride in all supported subject disciplines, while troubleshooting all associated challenges, from frustrations with phonics to maths anxiety, from the art of the essay to that of examination-timing and from Alternative Vote in politics to ‘alternative conceptualisations’ in chemistry;

My aim is for each of my students to discover the tools, skills and conviction to achieve all the outcomes of their and of their parents’ hopes. I want my students to discover what they can do and to inspire themselves by what they find.
I worked extensively as a full-time teacher, in both the mainstream sectors and Independent Schools sector, covering both KS1 and KS2 throughout Surrey, London, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. She was also a PPA teacher and have taught a one to one intervention programmes in Surrey.
As a tutor, I believe in working on a personalised course of study working through use of past exam papers and interview questions, teaching students to answer the questions well and grow in confidence. As such, I have successfully coached children through 7+, 11+ and 13+ examinations including up to scholarship level. I am now a specialist one to one and online tutor working with students in preparation for Independent School Entrance examinations at 7+, 11+,13+ along with the 11+ Examinations for Grammar Schools. For the 7+ I have prepared students for both the Mathematics and English examinations. At 11 + I have prepared children for the Mathematics, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning tests. At 13 + Common Entrance I help students to prepare for the English Writing and Reading Comprehension Examinations. I have also supported children across the Primary Curriculum, developing their understanding and skill set in order to boost their confidence and prepare them for both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 SATS in Mathematics and English at the end of Primary School.

I believe that the most important virtue in a tutor is the ability to empathise with a student's cognitive position. When teaching I aim to guide a student through the mental steps needed to accomplish the goal of the lesson.
I typically spend much of a lesson in dialogue with the student. I break this up with exercises to embed and reinforce key points, but I always end the lesson with a call to reflection on what the student has learned. I emphasise that knowledge is open-ended and interconnected.
I have a lot of patience and ensure that the student understands the concept thoroughly before moving further. I follow a Socratic and Engagement method of teaching.
My greatest skill is in teaching the student any concept in the most logical and the most easily understandable way.
My last 3 yrs of tutoring have been focussed heavily on the IB and IGCSE and the Indian ISC grades.

I have studied in a boarding school, unisex and co-educational setting, and have adapted to different teaching systems in different countries, including Australia, Hong Kong and England. It has allowed me to recognise the importance of valuing cultural diversity and individuality. I am fluent in English, Chinese and Cantonese and have worked with students from the pre-nursery to university level, as well as individuals with learning difficulties and special needs.
