I've recently retired from teaching but still have the desire to help young people achieve their full potential. I introduced Computer Science at my school in 2011 and the results were consistently in the top 10% of all English Schools. I'm proud of the students I taught and happy that I played a small part in fostering their enjoyment of Computer Science. Many went on to study Computer Science at University and since moved on to start their careers in this exciting area.
I have 18 years of teaching experience at Lady Manners School in Bakewell, Derbyshire. I taught ICT and Computer Science to pupils in years 7 through to 13.
In 2011 I became the Head of Department and developed the school's teaching resources and materials for Computer Science.
I taught Computer Science at KS3, GCSE and A level. At GCSE I’ve taught using the OCR and AQA specifications and at A level used the AQA specification.
I taught pupils to code using Python and am proficient in this coding language.
My pupil's results were excellent, being amongst the top 10% in England. I’m proud that many of them went on to study Computer Science at university and now have jobs in this area.
Computer Science is a wonderful subject to teach and learn. I believe that practical experience is the key to learning the subject well. Small tasks can lead to much better understanding and knowledge of the theory.
I was a 6th form tutor and helped students write their personal statements and wrote supporting reports on UCAS.
