About Me

I am a very experienced tutor with a background in Higher Education and 11 plus as well as GCSE and A-level tutoring. I have a Ph.D. In English Literature and have lectured at Brunel University, teaching core literature and theory modules. I am an also an academic specialising in science fiction and Gothic Victorian literature as well as queer, gender and feminist theory.

I am also a published academic, my book The Biopolitics of Gender in Science Fiction: Feminism and Female Machines was recently published by Routledge. I also regularly publish articles on feminism, gender, queer theory and motherhood studies.

My approach is to take the stress out of learning for my students. I create a safe environment that is high achieving but where my pupils feel they can make mistakes and learn from them. I use a thorough, step by step approach so that my students learn the fundamentals of a subject. I focus on teaching my students how to appreciate and enjoy a subject as much as exam technique and revision. I strive to build my students` confidence and to incorporate their interests and passions in lessons in order to make subjects fun and engaging.

Tutor Experience

I have ten years’ experience tutoring students at a range of levels in English from primary to degree level, a Ph.D. in English Literature and I lead lectures and seminars for core modules in literature and theory at Brunel University, London for three years. I have supported students with continental philosophy, including works by Derrida, Deleuze, Agamben, Barthes, Arendt.

I have supported 11 plus students with English, maths, verbal and non-verbal reasoning for several years, preparing them for highly competitive state selective and private, independent school examinations. While working for the Education Consultancy JK Educate, I trained tutors and monitored the progress of their students, designed online training modules, and developed resource lists for students at both primary and secondary level. Almost every one of my students report being accepted into at leas one of their chosen schools.

I also support A-level and GCSE students with English literature studies. I am very familiar with all major exam boards including AQA, Edexcel, OCR and Cambridge International. I have a high success rate with all my students reporting improved grades and/or improved understanding of their subject matter. An A-level student of mine recently obtained an A* in his A-level exams and I also recently supported a university student of mine obtain a funded scholarship.
