About Me

I am a recent grad who now facilitates theatre with young people, working at a school in Oxford. I have passed the TSA (Oxford PPE admissions test) twice, and I’m experienced in tutoring this. I’m also available to tutor GCSE maths.

Exams can be an emotional experience, and I have faced my fair share of failure! My focus in tuition sessions is to ensure every student feels supported and able to learn, without undue pressure.

Tutor Experience

I have tutored several GCSE aged students in maths, some aiming for 5s and some aiming for 7s, 8s and 9s. A majority of my experience is online, using an online whiteboard, but I have had a few in person clients.

My approach is first to assess how confident the student is on the material concerned, then select material appropriate for extending their confidence. It is important to overlearn, that is, go over methods until one is confident, rather than moving on too quickly. I often include resources for students to track their progress.

I have also had several online TSA clients. These students are all year 12 or 13 and generally academically able. For TSA prep, my approach is slightly different, due to the varied nature of the material covered. For the critical thinking section, I often cover a simple version of ‘logic’, which is a philosophical language covered in the first term of PPE at Oxford. This aids our approach in many of the questions. For the problem solving questions, I often use diagrams, checking in with students at each interval to see whether they can approach the question independently from this point. It is important not to skip straight to the answer in TSA prep, because each question is unique and may not come up again, so the student needs an opportunity to solve every question independently.
