I am a yoga enthusiast and enjoy walking and swimming. I also like to read biographies and crime fiction. I have written plays, poetry and book reviews, which have been performed or published online. As a music lover, I enjoy going to gigs and festivals in the UK throughout the year. I currently live in Edinburgh and regularly enjoy the museums, galleries and live bands here. I also like travel abroad to experience different cultures, food and wildlife.
I teach KS1 – KS5, preparing students for year 2/ 6 SATS, 11+, GCSE or A level assessments.
I teach Ofqual’s Assessment Objectives: how to respond to texts, analyse their language, form and structure, how to
consider the relationship between texts and contexts, and to use a wide range of vocabulary and sentence structures. I also teach my students’ reading comprehension to facilitate their understanding of words, phrases and sentences in context and also to explore aspects of plot, characterisation, themes and motifs.
In lockdown, I taught English as a second language. I taught children from the age of 6 upwards phonics, grammar, reading comprehension and English spoken language on an interactive platform, using games, role play, songs, AR and TPR.
I made sure that my sessions were fun and informative to engage and elicit responses from my young students.
I am an expert in preparing students for year 2/6 SATS exams. I teach spelling, punctuation and grammar, reading comprehension of fiction, non-fiction and poetry and improve students' written skills. I use educational videos, an interactive whiteboard and literacy games to implement learning.
I am also experienced in preparing students for their GCSE exams. I have taught Edexcel, AQA and Eduqas curriculums. I teach Ofqual’s Assessment Objectives: how to respond to texts, analyse their language, form and structure, how to consider the relationship between texts and contexts, and to use a wide range of vocabulary and sentence structures. I prepare students for their English language exams by focusing on creative and transactional writing. I also help my students understand set English literature texts and facilitate written tasks during sessions to improve paragraph structure. I teach my students’ reading comprehension to facilitate their understanding of words, phrases and sentences in context and also to explore aspects of plot, characterisation, themes and motifs.
Samantha has significantly helped me to understand the Power and Conflict poems in more detail and how to answer exam questions around them!
Thank you Samantha - Angus found his first lesson really helpful and beneficial. Hope you have a lovely Christmas.

MASTER OF ARTS ENGLISH LITERATURE | 2014 | THE OPEN UNIVERSITY
My MA provided guided reading on a wide range of critical approaches to develop my theoretical interests. I covered post-colonial, feminist, literary theory and book history. My dissertation considered the impact that the caged bird metaphor had on feminist thinking. I am adept at producing compelling content and am an excellent proofreader with a strong knowledge of grammar and punctuation, which helps when marking students’ assignments.
BACHELOR OF ARTS ENGLISH LITERATURE | 2005 | THE OPEN UNIVERSITY
I can rigorously analyse texts and articulate this knowledge to others, which is useful for the successful communication of meaning to my students when preparing for exams. I have a wide breadth of knowledge about how written communication is shaped by circumstances, authorship and intended audiences. I remind my students that it is useful to write about the social, biographical and historical contexts in which plays, poetry and prose were produced because contexts are important to incorporate into exam answers.
