Tutor Experience

Schools based teaching experience in the UK and abroad since 1985 but have also worked with adults in enterprises in Lyon in France as an English language trainer. Have taught across KS3, KS4 and KS5 (AS level) in the UK and abroad. Now working solely online, teaching IGCSE English 1st Language and Literature (Cambridge and Edexcel) with students based in the Middle East.
My last teaching contract was working for a military hospital school based in Tabuk, KSA, but due to a very serious cancer diagnosis, my teaching career abroad was cut short. My cancer is now in remission, hence the reason I'm now looking to re-boot my career as an online tutor.

Testimonials

Hello, my name is Ghada Abdelrahman. I am currently a university student studying architecture; I used to be an English First Language student under Ms. Chris during my IGCSEs in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
My first experience with Ms. Chris was in year 9, and to this day that class sticks with me. Ms. Chris’ pedagogical approach impressed me, it was quite different compared to what my fellow classmates and I had been used to. A breath of fresh air – it was interactive, surprisingly fun, and most important of all, it pushed us to want to learn more about the subject.
Ms. Chris then took my class under her wing for first language English for our IGs. Year 10 was a whirlwind, we were introduced to a variety of new things, like The Guardian, an UK online newspaper, Queen, the rock group, the Art deco movement, and the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup. That year my horizons broadened further than I could ever imagine, and I am forever grateful.
We practiced speeches, comprehensions, analysis, and narrative of all sorts. Even when it got difficult, Ms. Chris was always there to push us on, approaching the questions in a way we could then tackle. Unfortunately, Ms. Chris was unable to return to school for the new academic year (2019-2020) after she was diagnosed with advanced cancer in the summer of 2019. Although I was unable to be taught by Ms. Chris during my 11th year, I doubt I could have done as well as I did that year, even in my examinations if it were not for the groundwork that she laid out.

To this day, in my college setting, I find use for all that I learnt from Ms. Chris – from formatting a persuasive and assertive speech for my presentations, analyzing my coursework, and finding good resources as well as extracting the right info out of them. Therefore, I have no hesitation in recommending Ms. Chris as a private online tutor; I am quite sure she will put as much energy and time into managing these projects as she did back in Tabuk when teaching her years groups at KS3, KS4 IGCSE’s and KS5, AS literature.
