Interested in teaching and helping students to blossom.
Former lead tutor and programme area manager for the delivery of accounting modules at Hertford Regional College including Foundation Degree, Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (ICB), Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) and Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA)
Currently module lead in both Year 1 business statistics and management accounting at University of Exeter Business School.
Currently, I`m supporting students at: A-level accounting; and the AAT level 2 bookkeeping papers, as well at the L3 FAPS and MATS papers. I also support Year 1 undergraduate students in financial and management accounting if they`re on a specialist accounting and finance programme; also business management students, where they`re stuck with having to pass an accounting module in which they have little interest. Also, ad hoc statistics support for Year 1 undergraduates where statistics is an adjunct to their main programme of study.
I also like to help second time around students: these are the ones who were in denial about being `OK` with accounting and were hoping to pass their accounting paper first time around, and now are in the last chance saloon facing a resit paper in order to progress and are under significant pressure.
Finally, I like to help very able students who, for whatever reason, can`t `get` accounting, and maybe for them, poor results are affecting their self confidence, not only in accounting but in other papers also. If you`re one of these, then I totally understand because I was once like you.
If you`ve gotten this far and are interested, ping me a message letting me know the problems, and your availability (weekdays and weekends, mornings/afternoons/evenings).
Blessings on your journey with whomever it might be.
This was such a beneficial lesson consolidating the major "issues" of integration
Ian and I covered the integration by parts video questions, as well as a thorough comparison btw integration by parts and substitution. We also touched on the different types of integration (doing a little diagram for all of them), to proactively aid with the future, remaining topics of integration.
Ian and I really dove deep into the Lagrange multiplier. I have a much more thorough and clear understanding of this concept and when to use it. Ian is truly fantastic and I am beyond lucky to have found him
We covered partial differentiation for variable functions and looked at the 3 families in terms of classification.Ian always has such clever ways of remembering things and he helped me to visualise the concepts better! I really benefit from Ian linking the content back to the past exam questions- this is so effective. I am confident that with his help I will be fully prepared for my exam in April/May 2025. IAN IS THE BEST!
Today we really dove into 3x3 matrices, as well as the multiplication, addition/subtraction of matrices and inverse matrices (with identities and determinants). We also started looking at differentiation & optimisation in terms of classifying stationary points (Family 1, 2 &3). Iaan was AMAZING (as usual)! He really helped solidify my understanding of the last "section" of matrices and I am certain that with more practice (so kindly provided by Ian), I will be fully prepared for these types of questions in the exam. Going above and beyond, as always, Ian decided to touch on the foundations for our next session with the different families and helped give me a general overview and sense of direction for this upcoming content. I would be completely and utterly lost without Ian! His patience and incredible kindness was also clearly evident today, due to the connectivity struggles- however, Ian remained his incredible self and did not get irritated in the slightest. I remind myself after every lesson how lucky I am to have Ian by my side :)
We really dived into the homework questions, ensuring that I am fully confident with them. Elasticity of demand was the main focus of the lesson and I have a much better understanding of the concept and how to apply it to problem questions. We just need to discuss questions 5 &6, relating to partial differentiation, but as always- Ian ensures that I am fully confident in a section, before progressing. He truly is THE BEST!
We started with matrices today! I am feeling quite on top of 2x2 matrices, but struggled with the 3x3 matrices (which will prove to be a problem for inverse matrices). Ian and I also attempted a past paper question but got our heads in a knot 🙈 I managed to find the solutions in line with the memo- so feeling very happy and proud of myself (thanks to Ian for teaching me the approach and technique). He is just fabulous and really does go over and beyond! I so appreciated him seeing me on the weekend- the day before his son’s birthday! He is just amazing beyond words!
Today we focused on the five questions relating to implicit differentiation alongside the other various rules (product, quotient & chain). Ian was SO great in devising a strategy to approach these questions, specifically to create muscle-memory for answering techniques in exams. Practicing the smaller rules in relation to implicit differentiation was extremely helpful! I am feeling a lot more confident in this section and look forward to smashing the rest of the content. We also briefly touched on local & global max & min and will practice these more in the next session. I am beyond lucky to have Ian as my tutor! I would be lost without him. Ian also kindly took the time to set aside homework questions for me, because I felt as though my application and practice was lacking. WOW, how amazing is he...!
We followed a more question-based approach today to put into practice everything Ian so kindly taught me. I feel like adding this level of depth to the bigger lesson plan is such an excellent strategy. It will most definitely help me even further!
These lessons have been so beneficial! I don't know what I would do without Ian
