About Me

I call myself an intellectual extrovert - as I love sharing my energy for a subject with my students. I also do so with a listening ear and an empathetic heart, as I design and teach courses which elevate your strengths and challenges your weaknesses to produce academic fruit.

Tutor Experience

My mixed nationality background having grown up in Malaysia and living in the UK gives me the added advantage of being able to contextualise UK education pedagogy into the home language of students, which I frequently do with my students from China. I teach LNAT, interview skills and personal statement writing. I also tutor Employment Law on 1 – 1 basis for third-year university students and have taught Criminal Law, International Law and Contract Law at a summer school for Bucksmore education where I designed and delivered the curriculum on my own.

Among my achievements are two of my students getting an offer from Cambridge post-interview training, one on a Jardine scholarship.

I also have won law competitions run by barrister chambers such as The 36 Law group and have achieved 11 mini-pupillages – which are short internships at barrister chambers – which demonstrate my ability to write a strong application and build career skills, something I can pass down to students.

Finally, I design day-long LNAT and interview workshops where I write my own questions imitating the formal logic style of the LNAT. This includes original section A and B questions. Students have reported my prediction of section B questions to be accurate, with similar questions coming out in the exam.

Testimonials

"Brendan challenged me to think outside of the box and reconsider my arguments. What is more, we did not only consider the English law system, we were able to compare and contrast it with my country’s."

Belen, Argentina, received interview for Law to Trinity College Cambridge

"My sessions with Brendan gave me a great deal of confidence in my preparation leading up to the law interviews. His style of teaching worked extremely well for me; the clear and thorough approach was very helpful and I could tell it paid off when conducting the actual interviews. "

Vaidehi, UK, received interview for Law to Cambridge

"As a native Chinese student, the beginning was difficult because of the language problem and the difficulty of the LNAT itself, which requires a huge amount of reading and vocabulary. However, with Brendan's patience and detailed examples, I was able to understand the meaning of the articles and improve my speed in answering the questions."

Tracy Jiang, China, received interview for Land Economy to Caius, Cambridge

"Your explanations were really clear, making tough topics easy to grasp. I really liked how you used real-life examples, which made everything more relatable. Your patience and willingness to answer my questions made me feel comfortable asking for help. The variety in your teaching methods kept things interesting, and I appreciate that. Overall, your teaching has been a big help, and I feel more confident in economics now. Thanks a lot for your great work, and I hope we cross paths again soon."
