Hi! My name is Cat. I've just graduated from the University of Oxford with a master's degree in Mathematical Sciences, and I'm starting a PhD in pure maths this September at Queen Mary University London!
I have a real passion for maths and its beauty, and I particularly love sharing my passion with aspiring mathematicians, or with just about anyone who will listen! I am a big fan of just about anything puzzle related, be that jigsaws, sudokus or brain teasers!
I also compete in Powerlifting, with my biggest comp being the Oxford vs Cambridge varsity in 2023!
I have tutored maths online for 2 and a half years, with levels ranging from primary school maths to university level maths. I have primarily taught A-level and GCSE maths (and further maths), however I have also successfully helped two students through their university exam retakes.
The way I teach is very methodical. I will ensure you can understand the underlying concepts of the maths you are doing so that you can best apply your knowledge to problems. For example, teaching you exactly what a derivative is, and so when it comes to forming an equation using a derivative for a question, you can confidently decide what to do. I like to build from the ground up, and will take my time with you to learn what is going on. I am also a big fan of doing a lot of examples, and regularly going over previously covered material as to keep it all fresh.
Since I have completed a lot of exams, I can also help you to learn how to best answer questions. By this I mean help you to use the question cues to know exactly what is being asked of you, and how to best present your answers to ensure quick and easy marking.
I am an expert in A-level maths and further maths. I have taught both subjects across a range of exam boards, including Edexcel, AQA and OCR, but I can adapt to any specification since I have a lot of experience.
I can very confidently cover any pure, mechanics or statistics topics for A-level maths, and any pure or mechanics topics for A-level further maths.
I can also confidently teach pure maths at university level, for example abstract algebra, linear algebra and topology.
