About Me
My first degree was in history, and I still love flicking through dusty, old archives delving into the past. I have done extensive local history research in the town where I was born and am currently writing a book about it.
My other passions are reading, gardening, and dancing. I also love spending time with my grandchildren although this is not as often as I would like as I now live in France. My husband and I have converted two barns into gites and built a swimming pool in the last two years. I am now very pleased to return to teaching and grow my online tutoring business.
Tutor Experience
I have 15 years’ experience teaching English both in schools and adult education. In addition to being a class teacher, I have also been a 1-1 tutor in schools helping to improve GCSE grades. I have a thorough knowledge of the GCSE syllabus across different exam boards. This means I’m able to guide my students to improve their answers to gain higher grades. I’m also qualified as a Specialist Dyslexia tutor and work with university students who have dyslexia. Some of this consists of helping with the organisation of writing as well as spelling, punctuation, and grammar. This specialist tutoring can help with GCSE English as well especially for improving writing.
I fully assess all my learners to identify their strengths and areas of development. From this I create an individualised learning plan that forms the basis of the lessons. I teach spelling, punctuation, grammar, reading and writing in a manner that learners understand. I teach why not just how. This is followed up with lots of practice, games and quizzes to ensure the learning is consolidated.
