I am a passionate, diligent, and dedicated researcher and educator with over 20 years’ experience of module leadership and personal tutoring. I recently (April 2020) retired from my permanent position as Reader in Neuropharmacology at Leicester School of Pharmacy where I remain as a Senior honorary Research fellow and thus still stay in touch with the department. I am now looking for new teaching challenges. My diverse academic background has enabled me to teach a range of topics including: Neuroscience, Neurochemistry, Pharmacology and Physiology across all 4 years of the MPharm and Pharmaceutical Sciences programmes at Leicester School of Pharmacy.
I have a vast of experience in teaching undergraduate MPharm students and I teach in an accessible style which has been appreciated and frequently commented on extremely favourably in student feedback. As a personal tutor I am empathetic and thorough, and always strive to do my best for my tutees. Throughout, my university career I have been a keen and productive researcher and whenever suitable I strive to teach in an research informed way.
I have a broad knowledge of most areas of pharmacology with a particular interest in neuropharmacology, central nervous systems, neurochemistry. I have published >65 papers in peer reviewed journals some with high impact. I am the lead author of the majority of them and my publications have received >5000 citations. I am one of the lead authors for the textbook, Pharmacology for Pharmacy and the Health Sciences, Oxford University Press, 2nd edition 2017. This book is the recommended pharmacology text at the Leicester School of Pharmacy and a number of other schools of pharmacy here in the UK, and it is also being marketed in India.
Very helpful feedback both verbal and written. I feel more positive and knowledgeable going into my exam.
Very helpful and individualised the learning for me.
Tyra ensured all my requirements were met, and she also went through everything in a manner easy to understand
Thank you so much Tyra for your help. You really cleared things up for me and I now feel much more prepared to complete my assignment. Thanks again for all the effort you put in with me.
Mrs Tyra has helped me a lot so far. She is always eager to answer all my questions and has dedicated much time to help me fully understand difficult chapters of pharmacology.
Hi Tyra, I found out yesterday I passed my essay and exam! Thank you so much for your help, I couldn’t have done it without your extra tuition. Many many thanks Nikki
