About Me
Having recently followed my dream of living in the sun I have moved to Portugal and left teaching in the UK. With a passion for helping students grow and learn I now find myself tutoring students in Geography.
I decided to study geography at university following a short career as a VAT inspector for HM Customs and Excise, please don't hold that against me! A lack of job satisfaction led me to do something more enjoyable, teaching seemed a natural progression to pass on this love of my subject. When teaching I worked in the 11-18 age bracket with students studying at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. My love of travel has always allowed me to bring my experiences in to the learning environment, be that the classroom or online.
Having also taught Careers, Personal, Social and Health Education I love to help students be prepared for life outside of school, life skills are also important!
Tutor Experience
24 Years experience teaching in UK secondary schools before moving to live in Portugal.
Starting as a Geography teacher at an 'Outstanding' large UK secondary school I taught KS3, 4 and 5. I always use my enthusiasm for the subject to help others understand the concepts and lead them to show greater understanding using a step by step approach to build confidence. I have taught the UK National Curriculum as well as GCSE, A-Level and the International Baccalaureate.
My roles have also included Head of Year/House, Curriculum Leader for Citizenship, PSHE and Careers before moving in to senior leadership. Senior Leadership included working at 3 different secondary schools who were in 'Special Measures' and being part of the the team responsible for bringing them all to a 'Good' rating within 3 years.
Tutoring online during the Covid_19 pandemic became necessary and opened up a whole new way of working for many people.
Topic Expertise
Geography at KS3, GCSE and A-Level - my favourite topics being Plate Tectonics and associated hazards, Glaciation and Rivers.
