I have a particular interest in financial markets and enjoy reading books on finance related themes. On top of this I am are regular reader of the Economist, Moneyweek and the Financial times. I have travelled extensively and worked in London, Porto and Madrid as a teacher of Economics and Business. In my spare time I love to watch and play football whenever my family allows!
I am currently employed as a full time Economics teacher at Greenhead College Huddersfield, ranked as the third highest achieving sixth form colleges in the U.K. I have in excess of 300 hours of tutoring experience with roughly 200 hours of online experience. I have had 20 years of full time teaching experience teaching students with a wide range of aspirations, with many of my students having gone on to study at top UK Universities
I am a believer that passion for your subject is the key to being a successful teacher/tutor. I am fascinated by both Economics and Business and am a regular reader of such publications as the Economist, Moneyweek and the Financial Times. Interacting with students and developing their curiosity for the subject is vital for success. The focus of my lessons is therefore on how Economic/Business theory applies to the world around us. In order for students to achieve to their potential I use a mixture of mastering basic skills and developing examination technique. Live modelling of answers along with facilitating students to critically evaluate their own work and the work of others have been two very useful tools at improving performance. I have found that a fun but purposeful atmosphere is the best method to motivate students. To that end I always endeavour to make lessons both interactive and focused, with clear, challenging and achievable goals set for each lesson and over a whole course.
I teach the Edexcel specification for Economics but have had experience with a range of examining boards including Cambridge international and AQA. I have also taught GCSE, IGCSE Economics and Business along with A-level Business using Edexcel and AQA examining boards. I have also been an examiner for Edexcel A level Economics for the last two years.
As the Economics subject co-ordinator for Oxbridge candidates I have also regularly extended students knowledge beyond the A-level syllabus, exploring issues such as the functioning of Financial markets and the robustness of theories such as the Modern Monetary Theory .
Oliver as an exceptionally good tutor. He is very knowledgeable on the subject and explains everything in a way that he makes it clear and easy to understand. He’s helped take my daughter from a nervous wreck in December time to 6 months later feeling ready and confident to take her A level. I am so happy we managed to find him in time to help. Thank you.
Excellent. A first class teacher.
