I'm a lecturer and researcher at a university Department of Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, where I supervise postgraduate students and teach subjects ranging from robotics and control systems to applied mathematics and programming. My PhD is in Electronic Engineering, and my current research focuses on tethered drone systems, robots that operate at the end of a cable, with applications in cleaning wind turbine blades and solar heliostats. It's niche, cutting-edge work, and it keeps my engineering knowledge very much alive and current.
Some of the student projects I'm currently supervising give a sense of the range: a quadcopter that can both fly and swim underwater, a long-endurance multicopter drone using an internal combustion engine for lift, and a robotic arm for a beach-cleaning robot that uses computer vision to identify litter. Engineering, at its best, is creative and purposeful work, and I try to bring that spirit into my teaching.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking and board games. My current favourite is Ark Nova, which is a deeply strategic game about building a conservation zoo, which I suspect says something about how I think.
I'm a university lecturer and researcher in Mechanical and Mechatronic Engineering, and I genuinely love teaching. Over the years, I've taught and mentored students across control systems, robotics, applied mathematics, and programming, with MATLAB and Simulink being tools I use almost every day, both in my own research and in the classroom.
What I bring to tutoring sessions is the ability to connect theory to real, working systems. When I explain a control loop or a dynamic model, I'm drawing on the same concepts I use in my active research on robotic drone systems for renewable energy applications. That connection between textbook and practice is something students tell me makes a real difference.
I adapt to each student. Some need a structured walkthrough from first principles; others are stuck on one concept and need a targeted breakthrough. I'm comfortable with both, and I'll meet you where you are. I've helped students at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, with coursework, exam preparation, thesis writing, and research projects.
If you're struggling with MATLAB, control systems, mechatronics, or engineering mathematics, I'd enjoy working with you.
