I am a fully qualified physics teacher after completing my PGCE in 2007. Since then I have worked in both state and private sector schools. I currently teach physics part time in an independent school in rural Suffolk.
In 2003 I graduated with a degree in radiotherapy and worked as a therapeutic radiographer for the next three years. During that time, I became involved in the supervision and tutoring of other students studying the course. This is when I decided that I’d like to pursue a career in teaching.
I am genuinely passionate about the sciences, with a particular interest in physics and space. I love to watch programs about astronomy and enjoy looking out for celestial events and taking photos of the night sky.
I started teaching in 2007 after completing my PGCE. Since then I have taught in two mainstream secondary schools and more recently in an independent boarding and day school. The latter is where I’ve gained the most experience and satisfaction from teaching. I have experience teaching across the ability range and with pupils from overseas.
My main subject is physics but I have experience teaching biology (KS3 and GCSE) and chemistry (KS3) too. With the recent lockdowns I have also gained experience with online teaching. I have been able to engage my students with the use of interactive resources like Teams and OneNote.
The specifications that I am currently teaching are:
AQA A level physics
Edexcel GCSE Combined Science
Edexcel GCSE Physics
KS3 General Science (school’s own scheme of work)
I like to think I have a calm and flexible approach to teaching/tutoring and enjoy sharing my passion for the subjects teach. I can adapt my lessons to a student’s needs to ensure they get the best outcome possible to help them succeed.
These are the areas/topics that I currently have experience in teaching:
AQA A Level physics:
Thermal physics and gas laws
Edexcel GCSE Combined (physics)
All topics across the entire course.
Have experience teaching all sciences at KS3, from energy and forces, to reproduction and elements and compounds.
