About Me

- My name is Stefan and I am a junior doctor working in Intensive Care in London
- I graduated from University College London with an MBBS and distinction about 2 and a half years ago
- I went to Australia as part of my studies for an 8 week clinical elective
- I have previously worked in multiple GP practices as an administrator and clinical notes summariser
- I organised and led a quality improvement project in General Practice which changed how Doctors would assess and manage COVID-19 patients
- I have published 2 educational revision articles
- I have a wealth of teaching/tutoring experience in various areas and with varying student abilities
- I have a strong interest in widening access to medical school and facilitating successful applications

Teaching is an important role - it is not just a transfer of knowledge from one person to another but the best teachers are able to facilitate structured and critical thinking in their students to reach answers for themselves. It is also essential that a tutor has a good rapport with their tutee and can have fun during the process!

Tutor Experience

As previously mentioned, I have a particular passion relating to widening participation to medical school. If people have the work ethic and ability to pursue a successful medical school application then I would like to see them realise those ambitions. I have achieved this through my independent work with my previous secondary school - having been back to teach on multiple occasions with particular emphasis on quality personal statement and interview topics including ethical content. I am also a tutor for the 'In2Med School initiative' which consists of similar work with a Year 12 student.

During the pandemic, with the significant reduction in face to face sessions, teaching had to adapt and more virtual techniques were adopted. I was a tutor for a pioneering OSCE (objective structured clinical examination) virtual teaching initiative. This involved teaching on Microsoft Teams to three final year medical students preparing for their final OSCE examination - of which all subsequently passed and I received excellent feedback.

I already have considerable experience in relation to tutoring potential medical students. I was a tutor for 'MedicMind' which consisted of work around admissions examinations including BMAT and UCAT and also interview preparation to realise successful medicine application. I have also been an independent interview tutor for sixth form students applying to medicine (both classical and multiple mini interview - MMI modalities) for The Medic Portal organisation, again with great feedback.

In terms of general teaching - I was a freelance tutor for multiple students during my sixth form years and had high recommendation from my clients. I have also been involved with consistent teaching in multiple capacities throughout my medical school career and continued this into my work as a doctor with sessions provided to medical students on the wards, especially in the form of bedside teaching.
