I am an experienced secondary Science teacher with a passion for Physics. I love to break down barriers to learning, help students develop their confidence and provide effective strategies to improve mathematical skills. I aspire to inspire!

I live on the South West Coast of England so am privileged to have access to the sea, where I go swimming all year round - even in the winter months! I love to read, and my bookshelf is very eclectic. I also love to cook (which is basically an edible form of Chemistry) and less successfully, try to grow things (basically Biology) and I love Astrophysics and Space Exploration. I have two teenage girls, three cats and I walk my neighbour's Cockapoo every morning - all three keep me very happy and on my toes!
I have extensive experience in the classroom this has enabled me to always reflect on my lessons and think about how students learn. Every student is different and will have different skills; it is my job to identify quickly what students understand and what needs further thought. Having worked as Head of Physics for over a decade, I have kept up to date with the latest advances in Science and Technology as well as Teaching and Learning.I like to approach a topic by giving some background; telling stories helps to make the connection between people and ideas. I also relate the Physics to everyday life simply because it is there, all around us! I am particularly keen to develop students in both their skills and confidence when it come to the more mathematical aspects of the topics. Many students struggle with this and any issue can be overcome with patience, practice and encouragement.
KS4 Physics (Combined and Separate)
I have extensive experience of teaching the AQA qualification in the classroom, as well as marking internally in school and using Question Level Analysis to identify misconceptions and weaker areas of study (as well as exam technique!)
My work as an examiner for Cambridge International Examinations for the past 20 years has given me invaluable insight into the IGCSE syllabus as well as having the opportunity to contribute to the 'Examiner's Feedback' tool.
I have previously liaised with our GCSE Mathematics Department and this has helped me develop more cohesive approach to using GCSE Maths skills in GCSE Physics.
