About Me

I am a physics and chemistry teacher that has been around the world teaching sciences and math. Committed students usually reach A* grades with me, which allows them to go to their first choice on top world universities.
Many of them already finished their degrees and were immediately hired by the industry for very high-profile positions.
I base my lessons on students' prior knowledge and engage them with constant examples from real life and digital online resources.
I'm very fond of technology and have experience using digital tools on online teaching. I love teaching with diagrams and I can't go online without a digital pen.

Tutor Experience

My tutoring experience began in 1999 while I was a university student finishing my degree in Physics and Chemistry. I started teaching in schools in 2001, which allowed me to get to know not only my country but also the world. I've taught and tutored in different places in continental Portugal and in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, on the Azores Islands. I've lived and taught in a public school in South Carolina, as well as on the outskirts of London. Since 2010, I've been teaching and mentoring students in Physics and Mathematics from IGCSE to A-Levels in a Cambridge International School. The pride I feel when my students enroll in universities like King's College, Imperial School of London, and London School of Economics is only matched by the honour of having a friend for life in each one of them.

Topic Expertise

Cambridge International (CAIE) IGCSE: Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics
Cambridge International (CAIE) A-Levels: Physics, Mathematics with Mechanics

Behind every student who successfully enters their dream university, there stands a dedicated teacher who guided them through moments of self-doubt.

Mr. Miranda, without a doubt, has been that guiding force in my journey. The education I received from him goes far beyond mere words on paper; his unwavering commitment and passion for the profession transcend everything.

An inspiration in every sense, Mr. Miranda was one of those exceptional educators who ignited my love for science.

His enthusiasm was contagious, and his teaching style made complex subjects come alive with clarity and excitement.

I owe my strong foundation in mathematics and physics to his exceptional teaching, but it doesn't stop there. Mr. Miranda supported me every step of the way, empowering me to excel in all areas of study. His dedication to his students is unwavering, and it's safe to say that my overall academic success can be attributed to his constant guidance.

Hi Mr. Miranda,

Hope you are well.

I just wanted to take a moment to say thank you for everything you did during my IGCSE and A-Levels physics classes. Your teaching was instrumental in helping me achieve the grades I needed to get into the University of Manchester for my Engineering studies.

The concepts I learned from you in school still come up in my work as a Site Manager at a Data Center in Iceland. Your teaching has made a lasting impact on my life and career.

Thanks again for all your support.

Sincerely,

Pratik

MARGARIDA MARTINS

High School Student Finalist

Hi, I am Margarida, and I had the amazing opportunity to be one of Mr. Miranda students for both physics and maths. Physics was never easy for me, and to be honest, I was never a fan, but that didn’t stop me from getting an A* in IGSCE, and A (86%) in the AS exam this June. When I think about it, I have Mr. Miranda to thank for it, because even when I didn’t believe in my ability to understand physics in general, convinced that my brain just couldn’t cope with it, he believed in me and he pushed me to my very best, whether by explaining a concept for, like, the 10th time, all in different ways, until he knew that I knew, by testing me on it, or ensuring we understood everything to the last detail, by using his organizational skills, from planning every lesson and telling us ahead what we would be learning, to the notes he shared with us, to the way class rolled out, to the amount of learning material we had available to be able to consolidate certain topics we struggled more with. Back when I was studying for my exams, I sent SOOOOOOO many past paper questions to Mr. Miranda. He wouldn’t just give me the straightforward answer that everyone can find online or on YouTube, he would explain what the question is assessing you on, so that when a question on that topic would pop up again, I would be at ease. Ease is the word that I want to reinforce here, because it was how I felt when I was solving my physics exam paper in June, as I felt like I was more prepared than I ever imagined myself to be.
The online opinions and thoughts about the Pure maths paper for June 2023, consider it was the worst in the recent past. There were even petitions with thousands of signatures to cancel it and YouTube videos on how awful it was. Despite that, I was still able to get an A. While I was doing it and thinking this was the worst paper I had ever done, I reminded myself of what Mr. Miranda always told me: to calm down and work my way around the problems, because I had learnt all contents properly and I had practiced enough with them all.
Being Mr. Miranda's student was something I was very grateful for and appreciative of. He finds a way to help everyone, in every way that he can. - Margarida Martins

MARIANA SALGADO

3rd Year Medical Student at ICBAS-UP

Looking back on my high school years, I cannot emphasize enough the impact your teaching methods had on my academic and personal growth. Your classes were engaging experiences rather than just lectures and your ability to break down complex concepts, along with your humour (always present :)) , made it an unforgettable journey.
No doubt that your genuine passion for teaching, in addition to your technical skills, will have a positive impact on the lives of the students who decide to follow you on this journey, as it most certainly had on me!
Thank you for always believing in your students and helping us achieve our goals.
