About Me

I am an experienced and qualified school & university teacher/ college lecturer & tutor in Psychology. I've also taught a range of other subjects over the duration of my teaching career. In addition I'm also qualified in Person-Centred Counselling Psychology. My main areas of teaching interests are within the domains of Health Psychology & Human memory. I am particularly interested in 'laughter' and how it benefits health and well-being and as an undergraduate student extended a famous piece of research by Robin Cousins into the benefits of laughter therapy:

Tutor Experience

I have worked in education for the majority of my working life, having been directly employed at a number of educational institutions across Scotland and have also worked as a private tutor.

Over my career I have taught Psychology students at every level, (starting from foundation level right up to post graduate Diploma in Higher Education) from 18 schools, 10 colleges and 3 universities in the east and west coasts of Scotland.

In addition, I've taught a range of other subjects including Sociology; Human Physiology; Research Methods; Health & Nursing Studies and have worked extensively with students with additional requirements.

Topic Expertise

I specialise in time management, study skills and exam techniques, in particular, how to access short and long term memories under pressure.

Testimonials

Amazing Tutor definitely recommend

Isla has been an exceptional tutor. I’m an A level student and each session is carefully planned out and structured. She’s helped me a lot on my recall for knowledge and has helped me link topics together in order to make structured points. The sessions have been tailored to my needs and are taught in a way that makes learning so much easier.

Amazing Tutor for A level Psychology!

I have had such a great experience with the Profs as a company, especially with Isla who has been my psychology tutor for my A Level course! She has been so helpful and kind, I feel so much more confident with psychology because of her and the time she has taken to tutor me, and she has helped me move my grade from a B to an A! Isla’s patience and flexibility has been so amazing and I am so grateful for all her help.

I wholeheartedly recommend Isla.,,

I wholeheartedly recommend Isla. Despite only having been taught by her for a short time, she helped me raise my psychology grades and supported me, taught me and showed me a bunch of study techniques. She put so much of her heart and care into teaching me. I know that she put in her best to help me succeed and genuinely cared about me and my studies.

The Best Tutor we were so lucky to meet

I could not recommend more Isla as a best tutor whom we were so lucky to meet. She helped my daughter to achieve amazing result in a such short period. Honestly, I have never met a tutor who would be able to understand in such a depth why she struggled with her studies despite studying really hard. I was really worried seeing how much she struggled. Being from academic family myself, I really felt an instant huge support and understanding.

Isla A Level Psychology Tutor

I was tutored by Isla for psychology for about a year and she helped me so much. She always showed great patience and kindness even when I was struggling and she is incredibly knowledgeable throughout the whole subject. I sat my A Level psychology papers this year and Isla helped me hugely to prepare for this, resulting in me receiving an A (a massive improvement from my mock exams that I sat the year before). Since being taught by Isla my confidence has grown so much, she prepared me for my exams amazingly and always made time to help me, providing a comfortable and fun atmosphere in our lessons. Forever grateful.
