I am a teacher because I enjoy hard work and helping others to achieve success. I want my students to experience meaningful, interesting learning that applies to their lives. I believe this can be accomplished through the use of hands-on/minds-on activities, co-operative learning, an integrated curriculum, and technology and the internet. I am particularly keen to share my knowledge of online tutoring technology in order to accelerate learning. As an experienced Engineer and Scientist I have learnt skills of organisation, administration and time management relevant to a teaching career, as well as further communication skills involved with meeting individuals and representatives. I am flexible and adapt readily to changing circumstances as required. I use my industry experience to make learning relevant to a child's future by relating mathematical topics to the workplace. I have developed a solid foundation on which to build a career in the teaching profession and I look forward to continuing my professional development throughout my teaching career. Evidence to support this application in the form of written lesson observations, where I have been graded good in all aspects, is available on request.
I have a proven track record in delivering successful teaching and learning to students at Key Stages Three, Four and Five. At Key Stage Three I can provide robust assessment data recorded over the whole academic year that demonstrates the outstanding progress of students, who achieve higher than the expected three sub-levels of progress over the academic year. At Key Stage Four I can demonstrate that my students make excellent progress across the range of abilities: the students in my year 10 class reached their target grades in tests, all students achieving an A or B. All students in my top set year 11 class achieved A* or A in their mock exams. I can show that all of my ‘aiming-for-a-C' class actually achieved a C at GCSE. I have been gaining additional experience in teaching A Level over three years including C1, C2, S1, D1, M1 and M2. At Key Stage Five all my year 12 students achieved their target grades in C1 and C2.
I am continually looking to refine my understanding of current teaching and learning issues. As part of my chosen Continuous Professional Development I have been involved with the Assessment-for-Learning working party and have developed the consistent use of these techniques in the classroom to ensure rapid progress by learners. For example, the embedded use of mini-white boards at key moments of the lesson enables an instant assessment of student's progress. This may be at the beginning of the lesson to assess prior knowledge, or during mini-plenaries throughout the lesson. I am always looking to increase the pace of learning by, for example, using a variety of questioning methods such as open and closed questioning, and time limited and vocabulary limited questioning. I am very keen to continue to broaden my expertise in delivering teaching and learning in Mathematics to students through the use of Assessment-for-Learning techniques and I would be willing to use these interests to contribute to professional development.

I can't recommend Dean enough! He is an outstanding Math tutor who made all the difference in my A-Level journey. Having struggled with Math since I was young, I felt quite anxious about choosing it as an A-level subject. However, all my worries quickly disappeared once I started learning with Dean. Dean is incredibly friendly, personable and professional. His patience is matched by his remarkable ability to simplify complex topics. He broke down challenging concepts into manageable steps, making even the toughest subjects feel approachable and far less intimidating. What I appreciated most was Dean's adaptability. He was always responsive to my needs and quick to accommodate my last minute requests on specific topics that I wanted to review during our lessons. This personalised approach helped me overcome areas I found difficult and steadily built my confidence. Thanks to Dean's guidance my confidence in Math soared, and I achieved a final grade that I am truly proud of. I'm incredibly grateful for his support!
