I am based in London, which is my home town, but have links to London, Scotland, Ireland, Sussex and Brussels. I love travel and experiencing different cultures to my own. As a result I have been lucky to live and work in different regions of the UK, Europe and Southern India. This is always fuelled by my geographic interest. I always think I am braver and more adventurous than sometimes am, always learning what I love and hate through experience! for example I have discovered that I do not like rollercoasters and desiccated coconut! I do love hiking, yoga, the gym (new to weight training, but enjoying it), running, wild swimming, paragliding and can think of nothing better than to be out in nature or doing a crossword or cooking and sharing a meal with family and friends. I am a keen gardener, developing sustainable gardens for water conservation and wildlife. I have an easy and approachable manner, and build good working relationships and learning habits with my students. Students have often commented that I am excellent at classroom management, being very learning focused, but do so by nurturing feelings of competency , success and commitment.
When not working at home, work or in the gym, I like to adventure and travel both in the UK and abroad. I am always keen to see new places and learn new things. I am currently researching and writing a book for parents to support geography fieldwork learning, aimed as an aid for transition from the primary to secondary curriculum. I am also independently researching and developing case study materials for KS5.
I have been teaching for 24 years in both top performing Private schools and academies. I have also taught internationally in South India, following the international Cambridge Curricula. I have been privately tutoring international students and leading UK based exam skills workshops in my role as educational consultant, for the past year. There is not a geography curriculum I have not taught! My experience as school leader means I’ve developed a deep understanding of curriculum at KS3, GCSE and A-level. As an examiner, I have excellent knowledge of applying exam board thinking. As a curriculum consultant, faculty and pastoral lead, I have gained a 360 view of the learning experience. My knowledge of the learning process enables me to boost student confidence, to negate exam anxiety, focus on SEND/EAL and application of learning and revision techniques. This enables my students to uplift their grade and maximise their success. I particularly enjoy, cross curricular design, the development of geographical language and incorporating the STEM elements of geography. I particularly enjoy supporting students with their methodologies and planning of their independent investigations and coursework.
I have led many trips both in the UK and abroad, for example a school expedition to Nepal. I am particularly skilled at developing the appropriate literacy and geography language for different levels of learning to enable students to achieve with confidence, the highest grades. Over my many years as an educator I have forged links with universities and undergraduate students, therefore helping students with their university applications and the research and investigation skills required at this level.
