About Me

Hi, my name is Sam and I've just completed a Master's in Theoretical Physics at Imperial College London. (Quantum Fields and Fundamental Forces is the full, slightly wordy title of the course!) In 2018 I completed an integrated Masters in Physics and Philosophy at King’s College London. I graduated with first class honours and was awarded the Nikon Prize for my project in Physics. I believe having studied Philosophy along with Science has allowed me both a deeper understanding of the subject, but also of the reasons students struggle with certain concepts and how to approach these difficult concepts from different angles to build up a firmer grounding in the subject. As part of that degree I also spent a year abroad in Singapore where I studied a range of subjects from Hindi and Indian History to Martial Arts and Japanese Philosophy. I have a very broad range of interests and have been fortunate to study widely, too.

I tutor Maths, Physic and Philosophy at A-level most frequently, but have enjoyed doing a lot of Maths and Science tutoring at GCSE level and below, too. While the subjects at A-level are sometimes more conceptually interesting, I find strengthening the foundations earlier on in the progression very rewarding as this is what makes later, further study possible, and hopefully interesting!

Outside of academia I’m a semi-professional singer and classically trained pianist. I'm a keen cyclist and I read widely, both fiction and non-fiction. I’m a vegetarian and I love to cook. I’m also currently learning French.

Tutor Experience

I began tutoring as a teenaged before beginning to do so again following my undergraduate degree. Over the past 4 years I have tutored Maths, Physics, General Science and Philosophy to students ranging from 13 years old up to teaching the entire A-level Maths syllabus to an adult education student who has since passed his exams. I have well over 1,00 hours experience teaching, both one-on-one and small group lessons.

Topic Expertise

I have tutored the whole of the A-level Maths (Edexcel), Physics (AQA) and Philosophy (AQA) syllabi a great deal, while I've also tutored all of GCSE Science (AQA) and Maths (Edexcel). At the undergraduate and postgraduate level, I've tutored students in maths, physics and philosophy at top UK universities.
