About Me

I am currently finalising my PhD research in History of Art at University College London (UCL), with a view to pursuing a career as a university professor. Alongside, I am working as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant at the university. In 2018, I graduated from the MA programme in the History of Art at The Courtauld Institute of Art with a Distinction grade, and I received my BA in the subject from UCL with First Class Honours.

Tutor Experience

I have several years of experience teaching art history, both at university and as a private tutor. I am qualified to tutor the subject at all levels: from A-level to postgraduate.

I am currently working as a Postgraduate Teaching Assistant in the History of Art Department at University College London (UCL). In this capacity, I have designed and/or taught modules on subjects including: 'Art in the Anthropocene', 'Art & the Climate Crisis', 'First-Year History of Art Survey: 1600 to the Contemporary', 'Gender & Sexuality', and 'Art History & Race'. In addition, I have been employed as Undergraduate Dissertation Coordinator—a position which involved working closely with students to complete their final year theses. Alongside, working with several agencies, I have privately tutored students on subjects as diverse as painting in Revolutionary France, feminism and fashion in 1960s Britain, and the metropolis within modernist poetry.

My approach to teaching is flexible, as I design each class to align with the needs of the student. I am well-qualified to provide feedback on essays and dissertations. Likewise, I enjoy sharing my passions for art and teaching through online video lessons, in which can I discuss assignments and clarify topics that students are struggling with. I have an Enhanced DBS Certificate which is linked in the side panel of my profile.

Here are some excerpts from feedback that I have received from my university students in recent years, which testify to the experience of my classes:
- ‘Everything is so great and clear.’
- ‘Feel more confident in my own observations of art now.’
- ‘My favourite class this term.’
- ‘Enjoyed every single lecture delivered. Thank you so much for offering us this opportunity :))’
- ‘If I could take this class again I would :). Really enjoyed this class and genuinely looked forward to each week.’

Topic Expertise

I am qualified to tutor art history at all levels: from A-level to postgraduate.

I have experience of teaching subjects as diverse as: art and environmentalism; painting in Revolutionary France; art history and race; feminism and fashion in 1960 Britain; and the metropolis within modernist poetry.

Client Reviews

A wonderful tutor who goes above and beyond to provide detailed and considerate feedback. Edward has really helped me to develop my writing style over the last few months and has given me encouragement throughout the whole process. His expertise in all areas of art history and theory is outstanding. His work ethic is admirable as he always responded to my emails promptly and provided feedback quickly. I will miss being tutored by him and I could not recommend him enough to any prospective students!

Went off topic a lot but it’s art history so unavoidable!

Testimonials

"Although I have not been tutored by Edward, I am convinced he would be excellent in this role. He is organised, calm, clear, balanced, sensible, professional, interested, interesting and passionate. He is helpful, dependable and a great communicator.

As a tutor myself, I would strongly recommend Edward to those seeking tutoring services."
