About Me

I am an avid reader, writer and creative arts enthusiast. Alongside tutoring, I'm a published poet, and my poetry has been featured on the BBC as part of the 2012 Olympic Games Closing Ceremony. I also run my own business designing and facilitating workshops on creative writing, storytelling and public speaking. I love exploring the world and learning from different cultures; I've volunteered abroad in Nepal, Tanzania, Australia and Swaziland.

My passion for education and creativity often intersect. I develop ways of teaching that help students to stretch themselves whilst gaining a greater appreciation and enjoyment of their subject. I'm committed to discovering the specific way each of my students think: education can't thrive with a ‘one-size fits all’ mentality. So, I enjoy the process of tailoring the learning experience to meet the unique needs and goals of those I teach.

Tutor Experience

I have a wealth of tutoring experience ranging from KS3, GCSE, IGCSE, A-Level, all the way up to Undergraduate level. I tutor both English Literature and Language across a variety of examination boards. I also tutor Academic/Essay Writing and Dissertation Writing, as well as Creative Writing.

As a successful Cambridge applicant and graduate, I consult on applications to Oxford and Cambridge universities. This includes helping students to develop and edit their personal statements, conducting mock interviews, setting them reading lists, and assessing their written work for entry tests.

My tutoring sessions are inspired by the tutorial/supervision teaching style that 'Oxbridge' is famous for - full of intellectual rigour, inspiring curiosity and developing depth.

Topic Expertise

My subject speciality is English (KS3 - Undergraduate level), as well as Academic and Essay Writing. I have a degree in the subject from the University of Cambridge with a First Class Dissertation.

Testimonials

"Having Fope help me with English has been so enlightening, and the way that she teaches is very attentive, understanding and focused."
- Elizabeth (Year 13)

"As a result of my tuition with Fope, I'm a lot more confident in both English Language and Literature. Before I struggled with it and didn't really enjoy it, and now I find it much more enjoyable. I went from getting a 3 in my mocks to now getting 7s."
- Tallulah (Year 11)

“Fope helped me with my Oxford interview and she was really eager and enthusiastic to help out. She gave me really good advice on how to nail my interview. She helped me with the skills I would need to succeed in it, and thankfully I got the place, and I’m at Oxford now. I think a lot of that goes down to Fope because she was really helpful”
- Toye, (English Undergraduate at Oxford University)

I am really pleased with the way in which Fope teaches. She is a friendly and approachable tutor with superb listening, communication and analytical skills.
- Rebecca (Dissertation Writing)

"I've loved having Fope as an English tutor, she's really helped me develop my skills in analysing both poetry and drama. She always makes really useful resources for me to help me understand the concepts in my set texts"
- Emma (Year 13)

I’d rate Fope highly (5 out of 5) and recommend her. I plan on booking more sessions [on academic and dissertation writing] with her.”
- Louise (Mature Undergraduate Student, Oxford University)
