I am an American student who has lived in Scotland for the better half of a decade. I have university degrees in psychology and economics and am currently completing my Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. I love to learn and believe we should all learn about what we love! I fell in love with psychology at an early age and would appreciate any and all opportunities to support students through their psychology degrees
I have extensive experience working with students as a tutor to reach their academic goals. My tutoring experience began by teaching English as a second language to resettled refugees in my hometown in America. I learned what their goals were and collaboratively developed effective lesson plans. Because I loved my tutoring so much, I volunteered to teach English in a United Nations refugee camp in Greece where I worked with asylum seekers to help them develop their language skills. I loved this experience as I learned to adapt my tutoring practice to constantly changing environments as well as adapt complex client needs. Most recently, I worked as a tutor with S5 and S6 students to help them develop essential skills for university (e.g., critical thinking, essay writing). Through this experience, I learned to manage the work of many clients at one time which is demonstrated through my excellent organisational skills.
My approach to tutoring is founded on the person-centred model which holds that the client is the expert of what they need. I work collaboratively with clients to learn how I can best meet their needs at a given time, and develop tutoring plans in accordance with these goals. I am an open book and love honest and open feedback, therefore if my client feels something is not working for them, I take this on board and make all the essential changes necessary to ensure they have a great experience with me.
My subject expertise is in psychology. My areas of knowledge include (but are not limited to):
1) Introduction to psychology
2) Personality and individual differences
3) Developmental Psychology
4) Research methods in psychology (primarily qualitative but I can also help with quantitative)
5) Applied human cognition
6) Physiology of behavior (e.g., neuropsychology)
7) Social psychology
8) Culture and mental health
9) Philosophy of psychology
I provide support to students who are looking to improve their psychology essay assignments, develop their exams skills, or enhance their qualitative research abilities (e.g., thematic analysis, IPA).
She is a brilliant tutor
This was a great session, having Cameron to help me keep on track and not become overwhelmed is invaluable.
Good session, having someone to share my thoughts and decisions with is really helpful.
