About Me
I have been a teacher since 1985 and have taught Physics and Mathematics in the UK, Anguilla, Trinidad and Tobago, and Indonesia. Even though I say I love teaching Physics and Mathematics, what I really love is teaching....YOU. The whole point of tutoring is putting your needs first: What do you know? What are you having difficulty with? What is the best way for you to develop knowledge?
I also know that developing understanding is way more important than assimilating facts - so my approach will be to help you gain a deep understanding of concepts. I cannot promise that it will always be easy - but we will have fun in the process.
Right now I have time to tutor as I am finishing a Doctorate in Education. Hopefully I will be "Dr. John" in a few months.
My interests include kayaking and playing the steelpan - the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago.
Tutor Experience
I have extensive experience teaching Physics and Mathematics. I have taught A-Level Physics, AP Physics, AP Calculus, GCSE Physics and GCSE Mathematics. I also have some experience with IB, both at the MYP and DP level. I would be very comfortable teaching at any level.
While I was in Jakarta, Indonesia I tutored refugee students successfully complete college entry mathematics.
As a high school principal I also assisted students with many successful college applications - to prestigious institutions in the UK, US, Canada, and worldwide. I would be happy to help you with the college application process.
