About Me

I am fairly informal in my professional life; it helps to build a good rapport with learners. I am hardworking, innovative and strive for excellence in my own work and with the students I work with.

Some facts about me: I like to think I am a decent singer, I enjoy down time with my family, I enjoy writing poetry and reading the works of Neil Gaiman. I am trying to expand my cooking repertoire beyond the basics. I can't tell jokes to save my own life but it doesn't stop me from trying.

Tutor Experience

My friendly, flexible and innovative approach is honed from my robust experience (see below). I believe in establishing a 'contract' before committing to a tutor/tutee partnership; if you show me you are dedicated and willing to learn, I will work with you exhaustively to find the best way/method/analogy/approach that suits your learning style. Engagement and enjoyment in your learning is just as important as the grades you achieve.

I began tutoring as a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) in 2008 to undergraduate/postgraduate accounting classes (financial/management accounting, management programmes). This included workshops, convening summer schools, lectures, quality accreditation, grading etc.

In 2015 I lectured in accounting (ranging from National Certificate to Higher National Diploma level) at the City of Glasgow College. This involved working with professional and mature learners on a range of financial/management accounting and introduction to financial services classes. I continued to lecture at the college level for the summer of 2016 as an adjunct lecturer covering maternity at Edinburgh College (covering similar classes but also Sage evening classes too).

In 2016 I provided maternity cover for a Lecturer in Accounting position at the University of Strathclyde, where I convened the main undergraduate Part I accounting module but also supervised postgraduate research projects.

I currently teach at Lancaster University. I have taught on a range of modules including (financial accounting, management accounting, auditing and accounting information systems, employability, dissertation). I have robust experience in convening large classes (400+) and the associated responsibilities that go with it: lecturing, workshops, office hours, curriculum design, quality assurance processes, supervise dissertations and more.

I am an external examiner for accounting at the University of Aberdeen.

I have provided personal tuition since 2008. I have robust experience in delivering classes online; large lectures, small tutorials, one-to-one personal tuition.
