My work in teaching began as a History teacher 12 years ago. Since then I have worked as a Head of Year, Head of History, a History Consultant and now as an Assistant Headteacher. My passion has always been my subject. I read extensively around the subject and have also been a History examiner and Team Leader for a range of exam boards for the past 10 years.
I have been teaching for the last 12 years at high achieving state schools and achieved some fantastic results. A couple of highlights include gaining 92% A*-C and 52% A*-A with a cohort of 150 students at GCSE in my first job in a state school. The other is whilst working as a History Consultant and taking on a group of Year 11s and 13s who had not had a good standard of teaching for the past two years in a school that was failing. I managed to get the best exam results for those students that the school had seen in 10 years.
I have been tutoring for a couple of years with fantastic results and have become adept at online teaching through a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous learning.
My approach to teaching is based on Rosenshine's Principles and focuses on regular retrieval of knowledge, application, feedback and review to ensure that knowledge is retained over time and also can be applied flexibly and confidently.
My subject expertise rests in History. I have taught a large range of subjects in my career at KS3 level, GCSE and A-Level. This also covers a range of exam boards such as Edexcel, AQA, OCR and Cambridge International.
One of my current roles is as a History SLE, which means I regularly deliver lectures and educhats and provide constructive audits for other History departments. One of my proudest moments is also having worked for the Historical Association in delivering a workshop for the at their annual conference.
Good session and thanks for patience with our technical issues!
