I have had a varied and interesting career. My undergraduate degree is in Communications and Audio Visual Studies and I worked in media roles before training as a Social Worker at MA level. I have particular specialisms in mental health and substance misuse.
I then undertook ESRC funded MSc in Social Research Methods and PhD in Social Sciences. I have published in areas of interest such as emotional abuse and autistic women.
I have over 10 years experience working in higher education. I have worked for the past few years as a tutor, coach and training consultant. I often work with students who are neurodivergent; they may have different approaches to learning. I work in a strengths based way and can support with challenging areas such as concentration and structuring work.
Being a curious person I enjoy learning and aim to make sessions interesting, relaxed and fun!
My other interests include reading fiction; I am always pleased to receive a recommendation of a good novel!
I have lots of experience tutoring online and my greatest reward is supporting students to fulfill their potential.
My background as a Social Worker means I not only have expertise in this area but I am used to working with a broad range of people. Many of the students I work with may be the first person to go to university in their family, they may be mature students or be different kind of learners. I enjoy adapting to ensure studies are accessible to them.
I support prospective students in preparing for interviews at university. This is most likely to be for Social Work applicants and I can also assist where there are needs for reasonable adjustments at interview for disabled and neurodivergent students.
One of my favourite tasks is tutoring of dissertations. I have particular expertise in qualitative methods and literature reviewing.
For students undertaking professional qualifications I am experienced in tutoring around portfolio work and meeting professional standards.
